Smokem 418-IIX chassis for the TRF418

Smokem 418-IIX chassis for the TRF418

Smokem’s latest performance chassis is the 418-IIX for Tamiya’s TRF418 touring car. Developed and tested with the help of a top TRF team driver, the 418-IIX chassis utilises a proprietary 2.0mm thick “Pro-Weave” 100 percent carbon fibre construction – which is stiffer than conventional weave but softer than a quasi weave. Together with its flowing contoured design, the 418-IIX chassis provides increased flex and a lowered centre of gravity, improving corner speed over a wider range of track conditions as the chassis already prove with a Smokem equipped car set the fastest overall time by a TRF418 in the modified class during the finals at the 2014 TITC race.

TRR TRF418 carbon & aluminium lower decks

TRR TRF418 carbon & aluminium lower decks

German company TRR have three new main chassis plates for the Tamiya TRF418 available. First up is the CDE 1.0 cut from from purpose-made 2.2mm carbon fibre material. It offers a symmetrical design, a different shape compared to the kit chassis and machined openings under the diffs and the main gear. The second new chassis is the CDE 1.1, a chassis that basically is identical to the 1.0 but machined pockets under the diffs and main gear give different tweak characteristics to fine-tune the handling of the car. Both the 1.0 and 1.1 chassis are available from 2.0mm and 2.5mm material on request. Last but not least comes the CDE 2.0, a 2.0mm aluminium chassis. It arrived with a polished finish and may also come with a matte finish in the future. All three chassis require shorter inner hinge pins and come including a manual.

GRP 1/5th scale on-road bike tyres

GRP 1/5th scale on-road bike tyres

Italian company GRP introduce their new line of tyres for 1/5th scale on-road bikes. Coming for the front and the rear they offer an optimised design without sharp edges in order to maximise the side bite and traction available. A newly designed carbon fibre reinforced rim does away with the need to run inserts for improved precision and a very true running wheel. A WMS called weight system allows to increase the weight of each wheel by using two, four or six stainless steel rings to up the rotation mass for improved stability and traction on low to medium bite tracks. The tyres are available in a medium, soft and super soft compound pre-glued on two different design wheels or as rubber only.
