2020 Surf City Classic – Modified Report

The 2020 Surf City Classic was held last weekend at OCRC Raceway, with racers greeted with a fresh and challenging new layout put in for the event. Attracting some serious talent from around California as well as out of state, it was the young guns that shone. In 2wd, it was an all Associated podium as Broc Champlin won from pole position ahead of 2wd Reedy Open winner Aydin Horne in 2nd place, with World Champion Spencer Rivkin finishing in 3rd. 4wd saw this year’s Reedy Race Invitational winner Ryan Maifeld take the win in front of his JConcepts team mate and TLR driver Tom Rinderknicht, who won the 4wd Reedy Open class, in 2nd with Aydin Horne completing the podium in 3rd. The Mod Truck class win went to Aydin Horne, to complete a good weekend for the Factory Tracks Racing team driver, with Rivkin in the runner up spot just ahead of Reedy team driver Dustin Evans in 3rd.

T-Works shock stroke & rebound gauge

T-Works have introduced a new general shock stroke and rebound gauge for 1/8 buggy. The gauge features a red anodised hex head button that attaches to the upper shock cap and it allows the user to measure the shock’s stroke, rebound and also suspension droop for swift setup adjustments. The tool is made from high-quality aluminium and it features white colour markings from 60-150mm for easy reading of the measurements.

Jorn Neumann triples at 2020 EOS Rd2

The 2nd round of the 2020 Euro Offroad Series was held last weekend at the Arena33’s new astro track in Andernach, Germany. With a massive gap between this and the opening round back in February, for a lot of drivers this was their first major event back racing after the Covid-19 lockdowns. In 2wd, Bruno Coelho mastered the tricky conditions to take the TQ spot for Xray, ahead of Jorn Neumann with his Schumacher in 2nd. An impressive run by Czech Xray driver Max Gotzl saw him line up in 3rd ahead of Marcel Schneider, Martin Bayer, Hupo Honigl and round 1 winner Michal Orlowski in 7th, the Polish driver feeling under the weather all weekend. At the end of the mains it would be Jorn Neumann, with wins in A2 and A3, that took the overall victory in front of Max Gotzl as Bruno Coelho who won A1 struggled in the remaining finals and could only manage 3rd overall.

Davide Ongaro dominates 2wd Italian Nationals

The Italian 1/10th 2wd Nationals took place last weekend on the Green RC Team Track last weekend in Bellinzago Novares. Qualifying saw 1/8th World Champion Davide Ongaro dominate proceedings on the Astro track by taking all 5 rounds to line up on first for the triple mains. Team Associated team mate Alessandro Scaramozzino claimed 2nd with Paolo Moroni just one point behind in 3rd. In the finals Ongaro continued with to dominate, wrapping up the overall win in two finals, with Paolo Moroni winning A3 to take the runner up spot as Scaramozzino dropped to 3rd in the final overall standings.

Ultimate M5S Ceramic .21 engine

The new M5S from Ultimate is based on the OS B2103 Type R engine, a 5-port long-stroke engine that offers great power at medium-high speeds. The cooling head, the crankcase cover plate and the carburettor feature a new design, while the new DLC-coated crankshaft has two tungsten counterweights for smooth rotation and better balancing. It comes fitted with a ceramic rear bearing, the 22E carburettor and an O-ring under the cooling head for reducing vibration and preventing dust from entering the engine.

OS Speed Ronda Drake B21 engine

OS Engines in Japan have announced the release of the new OS Speed Ronda Drake edition engine. Identical in specification to the latest Adam Drake edition B21 engine, we would argue that his wife’s engine looks much cooler with its pink cooling head with black and white print and matching pink venturi insert. Originally only meant for the US market, the Japanese company has decided to make it available to all markets in an engine only or combo kit.

Dylan Saunders joins SWorkz Junior Factory team

SWorkz have announced the signing of 13 year old Dylan Saunders to their UK Team as well as Junior Factory team. Going forward Dylan will race the SWorkz line of 1/8 products and he had this to say about the deal, ‘I am very impressed by the quality of the SWorkz products. I am sure to make good results in the SWorkz team’. Max Sonnleitner from SWorkz continued by saying ‘SWorkz policies, giving young drivers the possibility of working together with some of the best drivers in the world, will also help Dylan on his way up. We are happy to have with Dylan and Jess another father/son team, that for sure fits perfectly into our racing team’.

Reds Racing 1/8th Z8 Pro ESC Gen2

Reds Racing have introduced the follow up to their 1/8th Z8 Pro ESC, the Z8 Pro Gen2. The new ESC is the result of over a year of testing and development together with Reds Racing team drivers. Improving both the power board and the control board with new components for higher reliability and durability as well as for better cooling. They have also changed the fan polarity to make it compatible with 1/10 ZX esc and with other fans on the market and have designed a new lightweight fan protector to improve fan blades reliability and increase cooling efficiency. Furthermore, they have developed a new 30mm Optional fan with ball bearings and a full aluminium case that has been specifically developed to guarantee up to 28000 RPM and to dissipate heat in hot conditions and to improve durability.
