Smokem Mi4 Upper Link plate

Smokem Mi4 Upper Link plate

Developed with leading local Schumacher drivers, the Smokem Mi4 Upper Link plate provides Schumacher Mi4 racers with additional, longer upper link positions to dial in their cars. By incorporating multiple link positions, racers can alter the length of the upper link without changing the upper link plate. Apart from the standard 39.2mm spacing, there are 2 additional spacings of 31.7mm and 24.2mm. A longer upper link provides greater roll resistance for a given spring rate and less camber rise. The design is also ideal when running harder carcass control tyres by maximizing tyre contact patch and maintaining consistent tyre wear.

Yokomo BD5 chassis plate & gear diff

Yokomo BD5 chassis plate & gear diff

Seen at the European Championships in France during the summer, Yokomo have finally released the BD5 chassis plate that won the Euros, as well as German and Japanese Nationals in the hands of Ronald Volker. Made from 2.5mm thick carbon fibre it is aimed for use on asphalt and low grip surfaces, giving more flex to help improve overall grip. Also now released from the Japanese company is their gear differential. A direct replacement for the standard ball diff, it gives consistent cornering, no slipping as well as longer times between rebuilds. The diff features lightweight plastic bevel gears which drive the coated aluminium ball cups and the sealed case means you can easily tune to tension with different viscosity oils.

King & Fischer win at Byron Off Road Challenge

To beat the heat at The Nitro Pit in Phoenix this past weekend, racing for the Byron Off Road Challenge started at sundown and ran past midnight. The first under-the-lights racing format was a huge success for drivers and their fans. Despite a late announced practice schedule in Thailand for Worlds drivers, that kept the majority of Byron Team Drivers out of the race, Byron Fuel still took 3 of the top 6 podium spots in the race, with the absolute highlight of the event being a 0.4 second win in Expert Truck for Kyosho / Byron driver Cody King over Losi man Billy Fischer with Levi Jackson taking 3rd. In the buggy class it was Billy Fischer that won over Associated team driver Ryan Maifield in 2nd with Cody King rounding out the podium in 3rd.

VRC Column – Retro, Multiple screens & Beta testing

VRC Column - Retro, Multiple screens & Beta testing

VRC is planning to offer you some other r/c racing experiences than just the latest and fastest that’s on the market today. Vintage r/c cars are one of them. We have already modeled a PB9 International, one of the last generation of simple non-suspension cars from the late seventies. We are now looking into the physics of such models in order to make them drive like they did in those days. The vintage cars may draw old school racers back into r/c and perhaps even inspire them to get their kids involved in radio controlled model car racing. Who knows what this will bring to r/c, and if for nothing else, we at VRC will be proud of bringing these old cars back to life again.
