Shepherd Velox V10 lightweight wheel axles

Shepherd Velox V10 lightweight wheel axles

To satisfy the demands of serious racers, Team Shepherd have introduced aluminium lightweight wheel axles for the Velox V10. The rotating mass could be reduced by more than 60% which improves the acceleration significantly. Additionally the handling of the car improves as the un damped mass is reduced, too. The CNC-machined wheel axles are made of special aircraft aluminium which offers optimum strength and durability. A special hard coating prevents the axles from excessive wear and an extra hole for the CVD pin simply doubles the lifetime.

Tom Jefferies does double at MMUKGP

Tom Jefferies does double at MMUKGP

The annual Much More UK GP took place last weekend on the Stonehaven track in Scotland. The race is split into two days of racing with the Pro Stock running on Saturday and the Modified on Sunday. In Saturday’s qualifying it started off slightly wet in the morning but was dry by round 1. It was Associated driver Tom Jefferies that took pole position for the double leg finals in front of John Simpson, with Cameron Mac Donald in 3rd. Two leg wins, including a recovery drive in the 2nd run, gave Jefferies the win ahead of TOP driver Dan Rowlands in 2nd and Keiran Smart taking the 3rd spot. In Sunday’s modified class the rain made a return and saw 3 wet rounds of qualifying and it was Jefferies again that claimed pole ahead of Rowlands in 2nd and Mac Donald in 3rd. The first A-main saw most drivers running with wet tires and changing to slicks to the final leg. Some exciting racing saw Tom Jefferies once again claim the win ahead of Cameron Mac Donald in 2nd who was fending off some serious attention from Dan Rowlands.

C.Andy’s Carbon ring

C.Andy's Carbon ring

Developed to solve the problem of your rim deforming when the temperature gets too high, the C.Andy’s Carbon ring is a lightweight solution to keeping your wheels round. After some experiments with carbon fibre, which is a great material due to it’s stiffness and low weight, they developed these carbon rings which fit perfectly into the rim and weigh only a few grams plus the high durability makes it possible for them to be used many times. After success with the Carbon Ring in 1/12th and 1/10th scale they worked together with front running 1/5th scale racer Markus Feldmann, to develop the 1/5th carbon ring. This was difficult because the 1/5th scale cars have problems with the high temperatures due to the brake disks which are located in the rims. But it was successful and now you can get the carbon ring for 1/12th electric, 1/10th electric, 1/10th scale nitro, 1/8th on road as well as 1/5th touring.

Irish Nationals Rd3 win for Michael Todd

Irish Nationals Rd3 win for Michael Todd

The third round of the Irish 1:8 Off Road National Championships traveled to Northern Ireland over the weekend as the BADMCC hosted the first of two championship visits to their huge track. In Qualifying it was a familiar name at the top of the time sheets as Losi driver Michael Todd was Top Qualifier for the third time in succession. Lining up behind the defending Champion on the grid continuing his impressive graduation from the Truggy class was youngster Christopher McCauley, the Xray driver separating the joint championship leaders as Navan winner Mark Harron secured 3rd. Before the start of the 45-minute final there was drama for the pole sitter as he hit electrical problems just as the cars went on to the track for their warm-up. Forced to call time, Todd would have to start from the back of the grid but he would quickly work his way through the field to lock into a thrilling battle with Harron’s Hot Bodies. Battling nose to tail and separated by less than a second for much of the race the pair swapped the lead until Harron made two costly mistakes in the final five minutes which gave Todd the break he needed to go on and claim his second win of the season. Having come through from the B Final Xray driver Alan Scroggie enjoyed a great race to join Todd and Harron on the podium. In the Truggy class Top Qualifier Neil Irwin backed up his Galway win to head home Round 1 winner Arron Vance with Steven McClements completing the podium in the half hour final.
