Sousa & Maiorana win at Drumstick race

The Drumstick race was held at the RC Clubhouse track in Warren, Michigan last weekend. The race saw around 130 entries which is a pretty standard for this race every year. In the 4WD Buggy A-main 2nd place qualifier, Xray’s Mark Sousa made a pass for the lead on lap one but then got together with the 2nd place driver and Mark went back to last on the first lap. However he was able to come through the pack all the way up to 1st and then slowly extended his lead from there to take the win from HB Racing’s Mike Valentine Jr. in 2nd and TLR’s Seth Rippee in 3rd. In the 2WD main it was Charlie Maiorana with the win from Russ Bryant on the runner-up spot. Mark Sousa struggled with a last minute setup change and ultimately had to settle for 3rd overall.

Leadfinger Racing A319 A2.1 Tactic body shell

The latest 1/8th buggy to receive Leadfinger Racing’s A2.1 Tactic body shell treatment is the Agama A319. First introduced in mid-2019, the A2.1 Tactic body design has proven itself on the track with a handful of different platforms. Fitment, performance and looks are key in every design, and every platform presents different challenges with each layout. The Agama was no exception. Fuel tank location, and the position of throttle and brake bias linkages needed to be taken into consideration. LFR were looking for a low profile and sleek design to fit the A319 perfectly. The designers were able to combat these differences by stretching the rake of the windshield and adding to the size of the side pod scoops for just the right amount clearance. To keep performance in check, additional down force was added to the rear of the side pods and rear centre of the body. As things started to come together, Leadfinger Racing topped off the cab with a shark fin for stability. To finish off the design the body includes a front scoop for even more tuning ability. As usual the body comes moulded from high-quality polycarbonate material and it includes window masks and a decal sheet.

JConcepts Detox Aqua compound 1/8th buggy tyre

Available soon from JConcepts is the Aqua compound Detox 1/8th buggy tyre. Designed for demanding track conditions, the closely spaced tread creates the ultimate long main event tyre and combined with the compounds such as blue, green, R2, O2O2 and Y2 and now, aqua gives racers an option for just about any temperature requirement. The design revolves around the centre structure which has hefty lugs arranged in a stacked configuration. The lugs have strategically placed cuts and grooves to allow flex in dusty conditions to perform even if the track is deteriorating while a long main is in progress. The outer portion of the tread fits together like building blocks, with shapes placed together that nest well but also work together to flex laterally to provide steadfast side-bite. The tread tapers off cleanly to the outer side-wall giving a smooth transition during hard cornering. The tyre comes including Dirt-Tech closed cell inserts.
