Hupo Honigl dominates SC Fun Cup Austria

RC-Carpet Fun and Fun Cup Austria got together to hold the first ever Short Course Race in Austria last weekend. The venue was the new indoor off road track at RC-Carpet Fun situated in an old warehouse near Vienna. Racing was held to the usual single racing day Fun Cup rules, only one heat to sort drivers into the finals and after a short break to get some good food and nice drinks at the buffet, three finals for all. The tight track saw lap times between 26 and 29 seconds apart from one driver, Hupo Honigl who was joining the race and dominated all three finals driving a Traxxas Slash 2WD/Protoform SC Truck. His best lap time was 22.99 and therefore considerably quicker than second placed Peter Wirthners best lap of 25,88 driving an Associated SC10. Third place overall went to Georg Sandhofer with his Losi Strike. After the race Hupo revealed his ‘secret’ that he was using Protoform tires similar to Schumacher Minipins, the best tire to use for carpet racing at the RC-Carpet fun track. The next indoor off road race will be held at the same venue on the 30th January, 2011, more details can be found here.

Jesse Munn wins 10th Annual Dave Mapston Memorial Race

Two weekends ago the Radio Control Car Club of Spokane, Washington held the 10th Annual Dave Mapston Memorial Race. There were 150 entries, with drivers coming from Washington, Idaho, Oregon, California and Canada. Team Venom attended for more testing, with two Gambler Short Course Trucks on hand, one driven by Venom’s own Rick McCrery and the other by Venom Team driver Jesse Munn. Both Gamblers were entered into the Mod SC class, which had 25-30 trucks. The track was 180ft x 70ft with large jump sections and a challenging surface that consisted of small ruts and minimal traction. Rick chose to run his truck in the mid motor position while Jesse took advantage of the MOR Drive System and ran his truck with the motor in the rear position. Both trucks handled great throughout qualifying and the Gamblers ended up 1st and 2nd on the starting grid, with Jesse sitting TQ and Rick right behind him in second. Triple A-mains were used and Team Venom and the Gambler captured the win by winning two of the three mains. Jesse Munn took home the win and Rick McCrery settled for third due to some unfortunate luck. Having now competed in 6 regional events, won 3 and podium spots in the other 3, the Venom Gambler Short Course Truck is proving to be very competitive in both mid motor and rear motor positions thanks to it’s MOR Drive system and race inspired chassis design.

Frank Root takes XXX-SCT to JBRL Finals victory

The Losi team took the brand new XXX-SCT to the JBRL Finals at Hot Rod Hobbies for its racing debut this past weekend. Product Manager Keith Whisler and team drivers Ryan Dunford, Casper Nielsen, and Frank Root all had early samples of the XXX-SCT RTR. The track was the typical high-bite blue groove that Hot Rod has become famous for and the weather was perfect setting up a great weekend of racing. The 8-minute A-main event was setup well, and a large crowd gathered around the track to see how the XXX-SCT would stack up in racing conditions and it did not disappoint. Root’s truck was able to get an early lead and check out, driving away from the field with fast lap after fast lap. The real action went on a little further back in the field. Coming from 9th and 10th on the grid, Ryan and Casper started to carve their way through the field, making nice clean passes and showing the precise handling of the XXX-SCT. Ryan made it all way up to 3rd and was chasing down second place, but ran out of time. Casper would finish a strong 6th. Upfront, the XXX-SCT was awesome, and Root was able to take the win by nearly a full lap.

2010 Hobby Haven SCT team enduro

The most anticipated race of the year for Hobby Haven was ran last Wednesday night, and the racers we were blessed with great weather and race conditions. The race format was a simple one. Each team consisted of 3 drivers and they were all required to race the truck for at least 20 minutes that night. One driver would pilot the truck, a second one would marshal, and the third driver was located in pit lane. Each team had to use the same truck the entire race, make repairs to it as needed to keep it running, and you had to pull into pit lane to swap out battery packs.
