Nathan Waters takes SC at Mid East Rd1

Broxtowe MCC held the opening round of the 2wd Mid East Regional Series this past weekend. With good weather forecast for the day the entry topped 90. However, the forecasters got it wrong and to start the day off we had light drizzle. The Broxtowe club had recently spent a lot of time money and effort getting their venue to a more permanent and ‘all weather’ standard. The track coped excellently with the persistent rain and gave an excellent racing surface in both the wet and dry. In the Short Course Open class the Durango DESC410R once again was the most popular truck and took TQ in all four rounds with Adam Skelding taking the first 3 rounds and Nathan Waters taking the last round. The final was a no holds barred affair between the two DESC410R’s, contact was plenty and some elaborate pursuit style maneuvering allowed for some close racing with Nathan eventually taking the win from Adam.

Kyle Johnson wins 4×4 at Silver State SC Champs

702 Raceway in Las Vegas, Nevada provides the setting for the annual Silver State Short Course Championships. For the 2nd annual event the crew put on a fantastic show with a brand new first class layout and together with race director Notch from West Coast Raceway, provided non-stop racing all weekend long. The Short Course 4×4 class was highly contested all weekend long. Kyle Johnson with his Losi SCT-E truck with JConcepts Subcultures tires took TQ in the first round and held onto the fastest time throughout the weekend placing the truck on the pole position for the A-main. As the last race of the day lined up and the tone sounded it was Kyle taking a quick start ahead of the 2wd champion Steve Antill. Just as it looked all weekend long Kyle’s truck was hooked up with the Green compound Subcultures and he was out front and maintaining a great leaders pace. Steve applied pressure for the first half of the race and looked to the inside on several occasions but Kyle remained sharp. A mistake and problems with traffic in the 6-pack section by Antill allowed Kyle to open a large lead. Crossing the finish line in style, Kyle celebrated with a well deserved victory earning the Silver State title. Rounding out the top 3 Steve Antill Finished in 2nd with Daniel Fry in 3rd.

Jimmy Storey wins Short Course National series opener

Last weekend saw the first of the 6-round Short Course national series kick off at the all-weather Astroturf track at Silverstone RCMCC.  In the 4WD class, Team Durango driver Stuart Harlow dominated qualifying, taking all four rounds for the TQ spot and first on the grid.  Jimmy Storey placed 2nd on the grid with the DESC410R, with Terry Atkinson 4th on the grid with yet another DESC410R. Grip levels were very high and drivers were trimming tyres to reduce the tendancy for grip roll. The finals were run over two legs instead of the 3 the drivers had been promised and it was best time to count. In leg one Jimmy Storey took up the lead after a few laps and took the leg win, but it was still very much to play for in the second leg. After taking the lead early again, Jimmy made an error passing a backmarker and Stuart re-took the lead for a couple of laps before positions changed again. Jimmy Storey took the second leg and with it the win. Stuart Harlow came in second overall for a Team Durango 1-2.
