British Winter Open – Report

This past weekend saw the annual British Winter Open event, a type of indoor national – this year hosted by the Maritime Raceway in Kent and run by the BRCA. The track was extremely fast but had a nice flow to it and average laps of 18s for 4WD and 19s for 2WD. The surface was very short pile blue Astro which had previously been surface utilised by the Silverstone club. The Saturday saw the 2WD class and odds on favourite for the event was TLR’s Ellis Stafford, former European champion and a regular at the Maritime venue. Qualifying was fast and furious with the TQ position to be decided in the fourth and final round – on the tight indoor track, passing places were limited so pole was highly sought. Coming down to the final few laps of the final qualifier, Ellis would put his local experience to use and just edge out Tom by a second to take TQ, with Schumacher’s Tom Yardy 2nd and Jack Neal in 3rd from Richard Barton and Charlie Ware who lined up 4th and 5th.

2017 Spring Super Cup Rd2 – Report

Over the weekend Florida’s Lake Park played host to the second round of the JConcepts 2017 Spring Super Cup Series. The event was a fusion of New School meeting Old School as Lake Park once upon a time hosted one of the biggest races in the United States that saw roots dating back to the 80’s – those referred to it as the Florida Winter Champs. Although the gear has changed with the advent of mid-motors cars, LiPos, brushless motors, and modern tire technologies, Lake Park was transformed into a modern day classic for the weekend with over 250 entries. Iconic for the red clay surface and great Florida winter weather, the Lake Park track crew, headed by long-time Florida native Ryan Eckert, did a fantastic job with track prep and layout. The layout was awesome and consisted of a great mix of jumps, elevation changes, and flow that resulted in a really fun track that was also a delight to race on.

Coelho claims home win for Xray at EOS Slovakia

With many having expected it to come in A2, only for that race to turn in a blot on an otherwise dominant Xray performance from the first practice, Bruno Coelho gave the Slovakian manufacturer a home victory at the Euro Offroad Series with a faultless win in A3.  Top Qualifier for the 3rd round of the championship, the reigning champion made amends for a hectic second leg, in which he eliminated himself on the first lap, with a near perfect race to lead home team-mate Martin Bayer.  Securing his second win of the season, the biggest story of 4WD would be those joining him on the podium at the Hudy Racing Arena.  With the host manufacturer locking out the top 3 in qualifying and getting six XB4 onto the A-Main grid, the odds where against their rivals to podium but in part mainly due to the Xray destruction in A2 it would be winner of that leg Lee Martin who would secure the runners-up spot.   More surprising was Michal Orlowski making the podium from 8th on the grid, the Schumacher driver the only one to podium both classes at every race so far this season.  The top non-Xray qualifier, securing 4th on the grid, Joern Neumann would miss the podium, A3 seeing the former champion taken out by Martin Wollanka while on target for 3rd overall.
