Belgian SCT Cup Rd6 – Report

Belgian SCT Cup Rd6 – Report

The penultimate round of the 2016 Belgium SCT Cup was hosted by the Buggy Club Seraing. After losing their previous track as the rental contract was not renewed, the club set up a great temporary track including rostrum, catering and a really nice layout. Unfortunately, as in far too many occasions this year, the weather is not with the organizers and drivers and the day would start under rain. Thankfully the wet stuff stopped before the qualifiers but came back in time for the finals, making the race really challenging for both men and machines. The opening qualifier of the Pro2 class saw Géry Ledocq (Kyosho) and Nicolas Evens (TLR) having a close run, separated by one tenth of a second at the end of the 6 minutes race. Stéphane Vanyper (Team Associated) was already 10 seconds behind. For the second round Géry found lots of pace and he took a clear win ahead of Nicolas and fast newcomer Didier Delférière (Kyosho). In last round, the scenario up front was pretty much the same while youngster Guillaume Laffut (TeamC) took a brilliant third place to line up third on the grid behind Géry and Nicolas.

Boots bounces back to take final qualifier in Vegas

Boots bounces back to take final qualifier in Vegas

Having dominated the first day of qualifying with two TQ runs but then had issues mostly involving traffic, Elliott Boots bounced back to take the final qualifier at the 1:8 Offroad World Championships in Las Vegas. The Kyosho driver would top the round by almost 4-seconds from David Ronnefalk secure pole for the second of the Semi Finals, team-mate Jared Tebo having already wrapped up the overall TQ by taking the previous round of qualifying.  After struggling since opening qualifying with a P3, Ryan Maifield would complete the Top 3 for the sixth & final qualifier with the young find of the 16th running of the Worlds Davide Ongaro booking a Semi Final spot with a P4.  Needing to be marshalled twice, Tebo would conclude qualifying with a P8 but the round was always a testing opportunity for the American.

Jiri Mara wins at Czech Open Rd9

Jiri Mara wins at Czech Open Rd9

Round nine of the Czech Open series was held for the third time this year at the Horni Jeleni track. Conditions this time were pretty bumpy and the track also had much lower grip compared to the previous rounds. The overall TQ was obtained by Jiri Mara from Max Götzl and Kaja Novotny. The main final started and both Jiri and Kaja took off with no problem, fighting for the lead until about 10 minutes into the race when Kaja ran into engine troubles. Taking wider lines to clear the jumps Kaja was still able to proceed but with about 5 minutes to go his car stopped but his pit crew was able to restart the engine and Kaja was able to end the race at slower speed. Third placed Max Götzl also ran into troubles but was able to carry on. Up front Jiri took an easy win from Kaja and Max who had to settle for second and third respectively.

Tebo fuels way to second World Championship TQ

thu_tebo

Jared Tebo fuelled his way to the honour of 1:8 Offroad World Championship Top Qualifier after taking the penultimate round of qualifying in Las Vegas.   Having TQ’d the first of yesterday’s two Day 2 qualifiers, the Kyosho driver again kicked off the final day of qualifying with another TQ run thanks to going the full 10-minutes without stopping for fuel.  With two P2 finishes also to his credit he wraps up the overall TQ that counts the best 4 of 6 with one round remaining. Behind Tebo, last night’s Q4 pace setter David Ronnefalk posted second for the round with the gap just 1.4-seconds despite the HB Racing driver stopping for fuel.  Running in the same heat as Ronnefalk, team-mate Ty Tessmann would complete the Top 3.  Former World Champion Cody King would be the only other driver to manage a 17-lap run on the increasingly difficult track as he showed further improvement in his package.  Justing missing out on 17-laps, Davide Ongaro would get a P5 ahead of overnight TQ holder Elliott Boots.

Ronnefalk comes good to TQ fourth qualifier

David Ronnefalk finally came good in the fourth round of qualifying at the 1:8 Offroad World Championships when the HB Racing driver ended Day 2 of qualifying with his first TQ run.  The Swede, who had a difficult first day of qualifying leading to him being critical of the watering of the track, would go fastest as the sun set at RC Tracks of Las Vegas topping the round by 4-seconds over Q3 pace setter Jared Tebo.  As in the previous qualifier, Dakotah Phend would again complete the Top 3 with reigning champion Ty Tessmann next up.  For yesterday’s pace setter Elliott Boots, today’s second qualifier would be a slight improvement on his earlier run as he posted a P5 time ahead of Kyosho/Reds Racing team-mate Cody King.

Malin Karlsen wins OMK Fall Classic Rd5

Malin Karlsen win OMK Fall Classic Rd5

Round five of the OMK Fall Classic 2WD race series was hosted by the Oslo R/C Car Club and the event saw Xray’s Malin Karlsen making a clean sweep in the three qualifiers to take the pole position for the triple A-mains. The opening final had Malin leading from tone to tone but in the second leg she lost two positions after getting in contact with the track markers. From third she was able to catch up, pass the cars in front and take over the lead again. From that moment on she never looked back to take the win in A2 and with it the overall victory. To get as much track time as possible Malin decided to also run the third A-main and again she would end the race in dominant fashion, taking the third win of the evening. Behind her, Morten Bremsrud (Team Associated) and Steffen Larsen (Yokomo) had to settle for second and third overall.

Tebo opens Day 2 with TQ run

Jared Tebo has opened the second day of qualifying at the 1:8 Offroad World Championships with a TQ run, the Kyosho driver maintaining the Japanese manufacturer’s reign at the RC Tracks of Las Vegas. Opening qualifying with a P2 behind team-mate Elliott Boots in Q1 and then a P7 in the second round, the former Worlds Top Qualifier would top the times in Q3 by 3.5-seconds from reigning World Champion Ty Tessmann.  Posting his first Top 3 run, Dakotah Phend, who runs in the same heat as Tessmann, would complete the Top 3 ahead of relative unknown Tomi Salonen, the Finnish driver having set his impressive time in the second heat of the reshuffled running order. Having dominated yesterday’s action TQ’ing both rounds, Boots’ third run would contain a number of mistake that would leave the European Champion with a P7.
