2016 AKA Catapult GP – Report

2016 AKA Catapult GP – Report

The recent AKA GP was back again at HNMC, one of the UK’s leading dirt tracks and venue. The controlled tyre debate could roll on day and night but with all drivers on the same pattern it did lead to closer racing and driver ability would show through. As usual the club had put in a lot of effort to get the track ready for this event and it was well received. The event plan was to give drivers maximum track time and so four rounds of practice, seven rounds of qualifying and 30 minute lower finals with a 45 minute main would be held. All four rounds of controlled practice went to Jamie Clancy with Jack Embling second in each Nitro Buggy round while in E-Buggy three rounds went to Jack Embling and Claus Didriksen from Norway taking round 1.

Carsten Keller wins at West German regionals Rd2

Round two of the German West division Nitro Off-road regionals was held in Kürten over the weekend. Different from other parts of the country the weather stayed dry, meaning good and high grip racing conditions. In the qualifiers the race for the TQ position was on between Carsten Keller (SWorkz) and Jörn Neumann (Serpent). At the end Carsten would be able to grab a very narrow TQ and the fight between the two would continue in the main final when both swapped the lead several times in the opening stages. About 10 minutes in to the main Carsten was able to open a gap that he would be able to extend to over a lap at the end of the 30-minute final. Jörn Neumann had to settle for second while Daniel Reckward (Serpent) completed the top 3 result another lap down.

The final day of the 2016 FEMCA 1/8th Buggy Championship, held at the Southern Alley Track in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, started with a delay due to heavy rain but thanks to the track’s efficient water drainage the organisers were able to start the lower finals soon after the weather cleared up. At the end Atsushi Hara finished in eights and managed to secure a lucky 15 spot for the A-main final. In the main, Atsushi soon stormed to the front and in lap 9 he was able to take the lead. From that moment on the race started to heat up with Atsushi Hara and Wataru Takashiro racing bumper to bumper, exchanging the lead, until Wataru Takashiro had to pit, rectifying a steering link issue which left Atsushi Hara in the lead that he would hold on to until the checkered flag to take the title from Shin Adachi in second and Paphon Chanyasak in third.
