Batlle TQs & wins Spanish 1/8th buggy opener

The opening round of the Spanish 1/8th Nitro Buggy championship was held this past weekend at the Silla track in Valencia. 10-times national champion, Robert Batlle (Mugen) would take the TQ but hot on his heals was young Juan Carlos Canas (Mugen) who would take the 2 spot after the qualifiers from Mugen team mate Oscar Baldo. After the semis, Robert would still be on top to go from pole position into the A-main with the Mugen duo of Oscar and Bryan Baldo claiming the positions behind the Spanish record champion. The final then was a lively affair for Robert who at first lost a couple of positions due to a flame out but he reclaimed the lead to take the day’s win from Bryan Baldo while Portugal’s Ricardo Monteiro (TLR) grabbed the final podium spot.

WA EP Offroad State Titles – Report

West Coast Model RC played host to the recent 2016 Carisma AARCMCC Western Australian EP Off Road State Titles. Over 103 entries across the weekend came in to do battle and with the weather on track to be nice and warm, all the stars seemed to align for a great weekend of racing action on the club’s natural outdoor clay surface. Racers poured into the facility from all across Western Australia, and some from as far as Melbourne, Victoria and Brisbane, Queensland came across to take part in the event and get a feel for the upcoming Australian EP Off Road titles in November. Practice started early Friday morning with many drivers taking to the track early to maximise their track time, the clay surface quickly developed more grip as more cars ran on it, and the lap times continued to fall, by the end of practice on Friday evening the collective group of drivers felt very happy with the grip on track.

Sinclair & Bryant win at Michigan Indoor R/C Open

Sinclair & Bryant win at Michigan Indoor R/C Open

X Factory drivers took home the top prize in mod short course and mod stadium truck at Saturday’s Michigan Indoor R/C Open held at DirtBurners R/C in Livonia, Mich, a suburb of Detroit.  Even though it snowed outside most of the day on April 2nd (!) racing was hot inside with over 100 entries. In mod short course, X Factory’s Paul Sinclair started second on the grid, passed into the lead in the second corner of the flowing clay track, and never looked back.  The TQ then made a couple mistakes while Sinclair motored off.  Later in the race, with the TQ truck charging hard it became interesting near the end, but Sinclair kept his SCX-61 glued to the line turning a succession of fast laps to finish about three seconds in front. In mod truck, it was privateer Russ Bryant driving the Infinity T5M on pole for the A main.  Russ fell back as the race started but worked his way into contention and, with two laps to go, passed into the lead, holding on until the end.  The last five laps were a great three-way battle, and X Factory congratulates Russ on the win.

Kobbevik double at Norwegian Indoor Offroad Challenge

The 2016 Norwegian Indoor Offroad Challenge was hosted by RCOne Raceway in Moss, Norway, and as it was also open to everybody there were also some Swedish drivers present at the race. The track is 40 minutes out off Oslo, and very nice facility, carpet, tight and smooth layout. So everybody was very exited upfront on who is going to take the titles. Saturday started off with 2wd buggy and 2wd Stadium Truck. Team Yokomo driver Daniel Kobbevik took a solid TQ in 2wd buggy, and Calle Svensson from Sweden took TQ in 2wd Truck with his AE T5M.

Drake wins at Pro-Line Series Rd3

Drake wins at Pro-Line Series Rd3

This past weekend Dialed In Raceway hosted the third round of the Pro-Line Series with the event attracting nearly 100 entries.  The atmosphere of the event was very laid back and the Dialed In staff even treated all the racers to lunch. Adam Drake was the top qualifier in nitro buggy and won the final followed by Jeremy Kortz and Shawn Kirkman. Mugen also took the victories in 40+ nitro buggy and Intermediate nitro buggy with Robert Wickman taking the victory in 40+ but the race of the day was between Jason Snyder and Lerone Hearn in Intermediate nitro buggy. Jason Snyder took the win by a narrow margin over Lerone Hearn.

David Ronnefalk takes eBuggy at Neo 16

David Ronnefalk takes eBuggy at Neo 16

Running alongside Nitro Buggy at last weekend’s Neo race, the eBuggy class was also stacked with quality. Qualifying saw Ryan Lutz take the TQ spot ahead of Team Orion’s Ryan Cavalieri in 2nd and David Ronnefalk 3rd. The single 10-minute A-Main Event would be run on Monday afternoon. With the grid set and the tone sounding, it was Tekno’s Ryan Lutz who would lead the field around for lap #1. Cavalieri & Ronnefalk would work together and keep pace with Lutz. Ronnefalk was able to make it by Cavalieri in the first couple laps and then quickly caught up to Lutz. Ronnefalk would then make a pass for the lead a few laps later and then begin putting in fast laps to try an pull away from the field. Ronnefalk would go onto take the convincing win and the Neo16 1/8 Electric Buggy Championship! Cavalieri put in a great late race charge and would finish a close 2nd. Tekno’s Ryan Lutz would go onto round out the podium in 3rd.
