The JMRCA Japanese 1/8th offroad Nationals took place last weekend at the Futaba buggy track in Chiba. A lower than normal attendance with only 66 drivers taking part, Atsushi Hara was a notable absentee, the former multiple champion opting to take part in the Sidewinder race in the US instead. The first day of qualifying saw a dry day but as is customary for this event the rain arrived on Saturday and Sunday morning, only to clear up as the days progressed. Qualifying would see Kyosho/TecnoPower driver and reigning champion Kazuya Tanaka take the TQ spot and he would also start the main final from pole position. In the hour long final however it was former World on road Champion Kenji Osaka driving a Ninja powered Mugen that would take the win by just under 10 seconds from Kyosho/OS driver Atsushi Kawamoto in 2nd and pole man Tanaka 4 seconds further back in 3rd.

Levin & Ausfelt crowned Swedish Champions

Levin & Ausfelt crowned Swedish Champions

The Swedish Offroad Nationals was held in Tomelilla at the EOS pilot race track last weekend. The track layout was different now from the EOS with a lot more traction and the track was faster this time so making a mistake would be costly. In 2wd it was Kyosho’s David Ronnefalk that took TQ in front of Oskar Levin and Otto Ausfelt. The first final was all about Ronnefalk and Levin. A clean final with Ronnefalk holding the place to take the win in the first leg. The second final started with Ronnefalk out front but after making a mistake on the second lap let Levin and Ausfelt past. Levin was running a clean final without mistake to take the second leg. The third final would decide who was going to take the Swedish national title. Ronnefalk was out front but made a mistake and again let Levin and Ausfelt past and again Levin took the lead and never looked back to win the Swedish national title.

David Joor wins RC Pro US Series 16

David Joor wins RC Pro US Series 16

The RC Pro US Series 16 took place September 23 in Harlingen, Texas and David Joor wrote this report. This race was turning out to be quite crucial for me if I wanted to continue my points lead to defend my RCP Electric National Title. Two years ago when I got into electric 1:8 scale I won the RCP Finals, and in 2010 I took home the RCP Electric National Title. The points setup has changed this year, which means so has the game. I was leading the points, Mitchel Gardner who was fierce competition at last year’s Finals was second. Jake Dillinger, who is in my region, has really been coming into his own this year, making every race a battle. I knew he would be attending this race. If he took a TQ and win here, he would become the new points leader. So I grabbed my Associated RC8.2s and took the venture down south.

Robert Batlle takes 6th Spanish title

Last weekend the last round of Spanish 1/8 Off-Roads Nats was held at Fuencarral close to Madrid. Under typical summer weather, 122 drivers took part in the race. Robert Batlle was the main favorite for the title as a 4th place in the race would be enough to secure his 6th consecutive National title. Also Borja Hernández and Richi Gómez were involved in the fight and they had serious options finishing ahead Batlle. After a slow first heat, Robert Batlle was first in Q2 and Q3, taking the TQ, followed by Bryan Baldó and Borja Hernández. The A Main saw a close fight between Batlle and Alberto García who was racing at his home track. Finally Robert managed to get a good pace and opened a gap over Alberto García who finished second ahead former European Champion Dani Vega, also racing on his home track. With this result Robert takes his 6th Spanish National title followed by Borja Hernández and Richi Gómez.
