Andy Moore wins Carpet Wars World Cup

Andy Moore wins Vega Cup

World Champion Andy Moore has won this years Carpet Wars 2 Day World Cup, formerly known as the Vega Cup, held at the Black Lion Leisure complex in Gillingham. Andy managed to put his HB Cyclone on the pole position after qualifying, followed closely by Yokomo racer Chris Grainger who had struggled on this track previously, but managed to pull it together for the big event. In the main event Andy Moore won the first two finals with Chris taking two 3rd places heading into the last final.

Final three saw a train of cars behind Andy Moore as everyone circulated in grid order, the racing was close and then got a little to close for Chris as he tapped the back of Andy, the race director had no option but to give Chris a stop and go penalty, by the time Chris was back on track he was down the order and his result left him third over the three legs.

Spanish 1/18th cup, round 2

Spanish 1/18th cup

Xray are reporting on their site on the second round of the Spanish 1/18th cup which was held at the weekend in Parla, Madrid on a great purpose built outdoor mini scale track. Pedro Fuentes managed to take the win after a hard fought battle that took place during a very long 15 minute final.

The biggest battle was among the other drivers, especially Adrian Ortiz, J.A. de Lara and Pedro Fuentes. In the final 3 laps everything seemed to be decided, but then Gonzalo (who was getting ready to lap 2nd place again) ran out of batteries lost the race… very bad luck.

Manuel Huber, latest driver to race Xray NT1

Manuel Huber

Xray, never one to hold back, have signed yet another big European name, Manuel Huber, to race their new Xray NT1 200mm gas touring car. The multiple Austrian champion and WC/EC finalist will join the Slovakian team with immediate effect and will line up alongside Groskamp, Christensen, Peracho, LeMieux, Burch and Baker to make a formidable team.

The main reasons for my decision to move to Team XRAY are the independent self-production of every part of the car (the XRAY factory is really amazing!), the possibility for quick changes to different parts, and of course the really great teamwork. After driving the NT1, I found it is much faster than the car I was used to racing.

Elliot Harper wins British Indoor Winter Series

Elliot Harper with Andy Moore

Last weekend saw the final round of the 5 round British Indoor Winter Series, held once more at the Don Valley Stadium. After only qualifying 4th the Hot Bodies driver Elliot Harper had a tough battle with Xray racer Ben Cosgrave and eventually managed to pull out a gap and chase after the leader Guy Thornton who shortly after crashed out, allowing Harper to take the win in Modified class and the overall title.

However, half way down the straight the leaders car came to a stop – it was all I could do to miss both his car and the marshal attempting to retrieve it. I just squeezed under his foot as he stepped back! By then, I knew I had a clear run in for the remaining few laps to secure the win on the day. This is how the race closed and I was very relieved to finish the series on a high note!

Martin Christensen to race Xray NT1

Martin Christensen to race Xray NT1

In Xrays efforts to create a super star team they have acquired the services of Danish racer Martin Christensen. European champion in the now almost dead 235mm class, Martin has also won multiple Danish national titles as well the Nordic Championships on 2 occasions and is definitely a quick racer.

When I arrived at the track and testing area, I was met with a familiarly noise – nitro engines! There was an indoor track with enough space to hold big indoor nitro races. Seeing all this reassured my decision to join Team XRAY. XRAY has what it takes to make world championship cars.

Snowbirds Motor Tech 2007

Snowbirds Motor Tech 2007

With the biggest indoor race in the world, The Snowbirds, only around the corner the organisers have released some of their findings with regards concerns that some stock motors come 10 degrees timed more or less than the factory 24 degrees they are supposed to be. Of the 40 motors tested, 20 new CS27s and 20 new Komodos, none had any major tweaking to the timing but there were some tiny differences due to tolerances. You can see the highly accurate gauge in the picture above that will be used to test all racers and anyone found with a heavily tweaked armature will be disqualified, so best check with tech control before the racing starts.
