BRCA LMP Nationals Rd6 – Report

The sixth and final round of the 2018/2019 BRCA 1/12th nationals took place last weekend in Chesterfield. The Chesterfield club is one of the stalwarts of the BRCA national series and this year treated us to new carpet to race on. The club’s members laid a fast flowing track and went the extra mile marking out the corners with kerbs and coloured run off areas making the track look fantastic. A capacity entry of 80 drivers appreciated the clubs efforts and there was a great atmosphere in the hall. On Saturday racers competed in the 13.5 blinky stock championship with the field split into F1, F2 and F3 grades. In F1, this year’s champion David Spashett again demonstrated the form that won the championship and took pole position from Andy Murray with Matthew Varah in third. David and Andy set off nose to tail and pulled a gap from Matt Lax who had moved up to third from fifth on the grid. Andy had a very fast car and was putting pressure on David who put his years of experience to good use and drove a tidy line to keep Andy behind before unfortunately collecting a crashed car allowing Andy through. This time it was David’s turn to give chase and the pair traded almost identical lap times for the next few minutes. Unfortunately contact while lapping a backmarker swapped the lead again and this time David would bring his car home for the win with Andy in a close second. Matt Lax drove a clean controlled drive to complete the top three.

Leo Arnold wins French 1/10th 200mm opener

Last weekend, the first round of the French 1/10th 200mm Nitro Championship took place in Angouleme, in the western part of France. Over 70 drivers made the trip to compete on the low to medium-bite track that offered a fast layout and a technical chicane just before the main straight. In the qualifiers it was a close battle between Leo Arnold and Quentin Leroux for the TQ spot. In the end Leo took the TQ spot by only 0.1s on Quentin Leroux. For the 45-minute final it was the same story and a close battle was seen during the first 15 minutes between these two drivers but ultimately Leo Arnold (Xray) took the win with a 2 laps margin in front of the Capricorn duo of Kevin Rasquin in 2nd and Thomas Guillon in 3rd.

2018/19 Essex Winter Series Rd5 – Report

The 2018/19 Essex Winter Series presented by Infinity concluded last weekend. With only one of the championship titles decided, everything was still to play for and the series saw a complete sell out for its final event. In the Scorpion Modified class, Xray’s Elliott Harper had already sealed the overall title at the previous event. But he wasn’t resting on his laurels as he opened up qualifying with the fastest time, three seconds up on Matthew White’s Associated, with Olly Jefferies taking third for Schumacher, and Stefan Chodzynski (private Xray) and Alan Bickerstaff (Associated) rounding out the top five. Elliott also topped Q2, as Olly moved into second ahead of Matthew, with Matt’s Associated team mate Chris Grainger into fourth ahead of Belgian youngster Florian Joos. Matthew had a chance of taking third overall in the series, with Kyle Branson absent from the finale due to his nitro racing commitments, and securing a top-three starting position would be vital for this. Elliott secured the overall pole position, his fourteenth at EWS, with the best time in the third qualifier, with Olly again second, Stefan in third, ahead of Chris and Alan. Elliott made it a clean sweep by taking the final qualifier, ahead of Olly, Chris and Matt – meaning Matthew would line up third on the grid ahead of his two Associated team mates.
