Merlin Depta wins at North German IC track regionals

The opening round of the North German Nitro On-road regionals, qualifying races for the German Nationals, was held at the Munster track this past weekend. Beautiful weather made for excellent racing conditions and in 1/8th IC Track it was Serpent’s Merlin Depta with the win some three laps in front of Shepherd’s Lars Hoppe. Lars had a near perfect weekend until he suffered car problems that cost him about one and a half minutes in the A-main, however he was able to bring home the runner-up spot from Shepherd teammate, Andreas Giesa in 3rd.

BRCA Touring Car Nationals Rd1 – Report

The BRCA National Electric Touring Car season kicked off at the weekend at the very popular Cotswolds track. After many seasons racing with the Sorex control tyre this year the series has switched to the Sweep tyre, but apart from the change of tyre it was business as usual for the top UK racers. Joining the domestic field for 2018 was Alexander Hagberg who was fresh from his recent ETS win in Spain. Three classes were up for grabs, Modified, 13.5 boosted and 13.5 blinky and 110 drivers lined up for round one of qualifying early Sunday morning. In Modified Olly Jefferies was out to defend his title while Elliott Harper and Chris Grainer looked to end a domestic drought that saw neither of them win a UK national in 2017, Kyle Branson and Alexander Hagberg were also on hand and looking for their first UK national wins.

Leo Arnold sweeps French 200mm Nats Rd2

Last weekend the second round of the French 1/10th 200mm Nitro Touring Nationals was held at the famous Ampuis track. The track offers a mixture of slow and fast corners with technical sections and a nice and flowing layout. The year the nats use a 4-minute rocket rounds format for qualifying and it was Leo Arnold who would take the overall TQ from Michael Derderian and Kevin Rasquin with the top 2 drivers proceed directly into the 45-minute A-main. Leo Arnold (Xray) would start from pole position into the final and he would hold onto the lead for the whole race to take the win some two laps in front of Capricorn’s Quentin Leroux. Behind the two Michael Derderian (Xray) had quite a comeback after suffering a flame-out at the start of the A-main to finish on the final podium spot. Leo and Michael were also the only two pilots to opt for two tyre stops whereas the remainder of the A-main only did one stop for new rubber.

Paolo Morganti TQs & wins at Wallace Racing Champs

The 2018 Wallace Racing Challenge was held at Full Throttle RC Raceway last weekend with 87 entries in several gas and a single electric class. In the 1/8th GT ROAR 5-port Spec category Paolo Morganti would take the TQ and he also went on to win the 30-minute A-main some two laps in front of Fernando Medez as Jose Almonte rounded out the top 3 results from Angel Santiago 4th. Over in the non-sponsored GT ranking it was Fernando Medez with the win.

2018 RC-Lemans Series Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the 13th RC-Lemans series season was held at the Belgian Genk track last weekend. The weather was dry except for some rain before race day, however the qualifiers on Sunday would be held on a dry track. In the LMP1 Modified class all A-finalists would score their fastest run in the final qualifier and it was vice-champion, Tim Altmann with the overall TQ and a new track record of 14.637s, some 0.9s in front Tobias Weist. Only tenths of a second adrift, Reinder Wilms and Kai Altmann would make up the top 4 as former 40+ champion, Joachim Behnken and LMP2 champ, Andreas Dick also made the A-main.

Xray Racing Series Italy finale – Report

The final round of the Xray Racing Series Italy was recently held at the Miniautodromo T5 in Rome. The event attracted 65 drivers to compete in the five classes of Touring Modified, Touring 13.5T Pro blinky, 13.5T blinky, 17.5T blinky and Formula. In the Touring Modified class it was Alessio Menicucci with the TQ from Martin Hudy 2nd and Giuseppe De Liguori 3rd. Alessio and Martin would also battle it out in the opening two A-mains but in the end it was Alessio with the overall win from Martin in 2nd place. Simone D’Ottavio completed the podium result in 3rd.

Fillipos Issakidis wins Greek Touring Nats Rd2

The second round of the Greek Touring Car Modified Nationals was hosted by the RcManiacs track in Argos. During the three qualifiers the battle for the overall TQ was on between young gun Ioannidis and Greek champions Isaakidis and Doucakis. Eventually Isaakidis took the pole in front of Ioannidis and Doucakis. In the first leg Isaakidis made a mistake in the opening stages of the race so it was Ioannidis who took the lead and win with a really good pace, some six seconds in front of Paachristos and Mpakirtzis. At the start of leg 2 there was an accident involving a lot of cars so Kidis took the lead for two laps but got passed by Isaakidis who eventually finished 1st in the leg with Mpakirtzis in 2nd and Papachristo in 3rd. In the deciding third leg Isaakidis opened a 2-second gap on Ioannidis and remained in the lead till the end of the leg so it was Isaakidis who secured P1 overall with Ioannidis 2nd and Papachristos 3rd.

Jakub Klapacz wins Grand Prix Malopolska title

The fourth and final round of the Grand Prix Malopolska series was held in Poland with drivers from France, the Czech Republic and Poland in attendance. In the 13.5T Touring class Jakub Klapacz was the points leader going into the final round thanks to winning two of the three previous rounds but another win was denied by Arkadiusz Smyk who took the day’s win after a great drive all day with Jakub coming in a strong 2nd place to take the overall title from Marek Cisek 2nd and Maciej Galecki in 3rd.
