BRCA Clubman’s Rd2 – Report

After a very wet weekend at the season opener, the drivers of the BRCA Clubman’s Series arrived on the Saturday for Practice day at Adur and the weather was perfect, with temperatures of 20ºC+ and the forecast for the following race day was even better so no wet cars required for this weekend. Every driver in all of the three classes was looking forward to getting some track time on the new Sweep control tyres for all classes. The Adur crew had put a lot of work in over the last year. All of their time and effort paid off and it has made the facility even better with a new corner position for race control and scrutineering, new fencing and a re-leveling of the walkway surface.

Sousa & Ramos win at Portuguese IC Track Nats Rd2

The Maiorca track recently played host to the 2nd round of the Portuguese IC Track Nationals. In the premier 1/8th Nitro class it was Shepherd’s Jose Areias with the TQ, however after the A-main it was Vasco Sousa (Shepherd) with the win thanks to staying on a single set of tyres as Alexandre Pereira came in 2nd. Over in the 1/10th 200mm class it was Shepherd’s Fabio Ramos with the TQ and win from young Xray driver Tomas Andrade in 2nd and Nuno Duraes (Mugen) 3rd.

Andrew Bardetta takes NSW State Championship title

The 2018 NSW State Championships were hosted by the NSWRCRCC Inc at the John Grant International Raceway. In 1/10th Nitro it was Jeff Hamon that would take the TQ, Andrew Bardetta in 2nd, David Chen 3rd and up and coming young racer Brayden Stanley in 4th taking the last automatic qualifying position for the A-final. They were joined in the final by Alex Koussas, Tim Moylan, Dustin Fletcher, George Karozis, Michael Rumiz and John Germanos who bumped up from the 2 semi finals.

Tyrolean Championship Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the Tyrolean Championship was held at the AMC Tirol club last weekend with 49 entries for the four classes of Touring Modified, Touring Stock, Formula and Histocup. The latter attracted eight entries and was run with mandatory “youngtimer” body shells and hand out 13.5T stock motors. The drivers are encouraged to use non-disc wheels for the hand-out tyres to make for an even more realistic appearance of the cars and in the end it was Rainer Tschabrun with the win from Aaron Tursky and Stefan Santer.

Eric Dankel wins at TOS Central Division Rd4

Round 4 of this year’s central German division Tonisport Onroad Series was held at the Mannheim track last weekend. In the Touring Modified class Mugen’s Eric Dankel made a clean sweep, TQing all four qualifying rounds of qualifying and also coming out on top after the triple A-mains. Team Magic’s Patrick Gassauer ended the day on the 2 spot from Thomas Stenger 3rd.

Schumacher BTCC Rd2 – Report

Round 2 of the Schumacher BTCC series moved to sunny Stafford this weekend with Elliott Harper taking the win in Modified ending Olly Jefferies’ fine run of form. Elliott took the overall TQ ahead of Olly, winning three of the four qualifiers, local fast guy Zak Smith having a strong day qualified 3rd. In the final Elliott controlled the pace, Zak managed to get past Olly into 2nd and that’s how it remained.

Maxi Vogl wins at South German regionals Rd1

The opening round of the South German Nitro On-road regionals, qualifying races for the German Nationals, was held at the Minidrom Köditz MCC Hof track over the weekend. In the 1/8 nitro class it was Maxi Vogl who set the pace, setting the only 12-second lap time at the difficult track and just missing the lap record by three hundredths of a second. At the start of the final Maxi easily pulled away and he originally planing to do a tyre change mid-race, but decided to save his tyres and as a result, he took the win with a two-lap margin in front of Bastian Gramlich and Armin Baier.

D’hondt claims first ENS win in thrilling season opener

Robin D’hondt has claimed his first ever ENS victory today in the Netherlands, the Capricorn driver securing victory ahead of three of the 1:8 Onroad’s greatest drivers.  Starting from fifth on the grid, the Belgian was able to capitalise on others hitting trouble but when they came back at him he kept is nerve together with running a flawless race both on the track and in the pits.  Top Qualifier Simon Kurzbuch looked like he was on another of his Sunday drives but coming up to his second fuel stop the Shepherd driver’s car stopped.  This allowed the Infinity of Dario Balestri to move to the front but he would have problems on his first tyre stop with a stray tyre in the pitlane which he thought had come from his car.  All the while D’hondt was there to take control, and while Kurzbuch somehow recovered the 2-laps he lost early on, the European Champion kept the ENS Champion at bay.  With thrilling battles throughout the race for the podium positions, Silvio Hächler in the mix until hitting problems, when all the final pitstops were done & dusted, the final 4-minutes would produce a great battle for second between Kurzbuch and Balestri, the latter holding off his rival.  With Lamberto Collari a part of the battle but getting caught at the line he would just miss the podium.
