Matsukura goes fastest in France

Naoto Matsukura has just gone fastest at the 1:8 Onroad World Championships in Monteux, France.  The Infinity driver hasn’t run outside the Top 3 and finally went top of the timing sheets in the penultimate round of controlled practice becoming the third different driver to do so in as many rounds.  Behind the multiple electric onroad World Champion, fellow Japanese driver Syoki Takahata posted the second fastest time coming good on the form he showed in free practice yesterday.  It would be a strong round for Xray with Bruno Coelho setting the 3rd quickest time and being joined by team-mate Alessio Mazzeo, the Italian finding a lot of time to post the 4th fastest time.  It was also a good round for reigning 1:10 World Champion Dominic Greiner as he took his Serpent to the 6th fastest time ahead of the reigning 1:8 Champion Simon Kurzbuch.

Kurzbuch comes good to top CP2

Reigning World Champion Simon Kurzbuch has hit the top of the time sheets for the first time in France as he set the pace in the second round of controlled practice.  Starting Day 3 of the 21st running of the 1:8 Onroad World Championship with a confidence boosting time in the final free practice that left him P2 behind Dario Balestri, the Shepherd driver after struggling with windy conditions in CP1 adjusted his car perfectly for CP2 to set the fastest 3-consecutive laps of the afternoon run.  Behind him it was his new for 2017 rival Bruno Coelho who was second fastest, the Xray driver also making improvements to his car after struggling in the the opening controlled practice.  The first time an Infinity hasn’t filled the top spot on the time sheets, it was Naoto Matsukura who was their quickest driver setting the third fastest time despite crashing out of the 7-minute run.  For free practice pace setter Dario Balestri a rear drive shaft failure in the warm-up would prevent him from taking the start of CP2, the Italian saying the drive shaft was due to for changing after the run.

Davis fastest in opening controlled practice

Jesse Davis has set the fastest time in the opening round of controlled practice at the 1:8 Onroad World championships in France.  The Infinity driver set the fastest 3-consecutive laps in difficult windy conditions ahead of team-mate Naoto Matsukura.  Continuing to be the main challenger to the Infinity team reigning champion Simon Kurzbuch would take his Shepherd to the third fastest time ahead of free practice pace setter Dario Balestri.  Two improvements for the round would be Francesco Tironi and Robert Pietsch who having been seeded in the second fastest group based on free practice times set the 5th & 6th times respectively.

Nitro-West-Masters Rd5 – Report

The 260-meter track of Velp in the Netherland with its fluent layout was the venue of round 5 of the Nitro-West-Masters last weekend. Velp is the traditional one-off race of the popular nitro on-road series outside Western Germany. A total of 50 participants joined the competition which was held for once between the German 1/8th and 1/10th scale nitro on-road nationals. On Saturday, it was pouring down most of the time limiting practice to only two dry slots. On Sunday, the start of qualifying was delayed for one hour to ensure a dry track for the competitors.

Arrowmax Asia Race Cup China Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the Arrowmax Asia Race Cup China was held at the AMA Amazing Indoor Arena in Guangzhou, China. The world-class indoor facility provided an excellent location, free of any weather threats. The event attracted some of the fastest racers from the region that would battle for entries for the AARC grand finale and in the three classes of Touring Modified, 13.5T Touring Stock and 21.5T Formula – the latter two using control Dash-brand motors. The Modified Touring class featured a veteran vs. youngster classic, as 14-years old Lao Min Hou narrowly edged out Stick-King, one of the best known drivers from Hong Kong, to grab the TQ honours for the race.

Byung Hwan Kim teams up with Xray

Xray have announced the signing of top Korean touring car driver and national champion Byung Hwan Kim to their factory team. The former Xray privateer will be using Xray’s T4 platform at all major races in Korea and he will also attend at select oversea races such as the Reedy Race, the TITC, AOC and JMRCA events. Kim says:

I am very happy to join the Xray factory Team. During preparing 2016 World race cup, I could test various brand vehicles with the best quality Xray. I could also participate in 2016/17 seasons in Korea with the best quality Xray and made a good performance. I would like to give many thanks to Xray team that gave me a good race experience in Korea and also to Team James Racing in Korea who gave me a lot of help. I will make my best effort for the remaining 2017 season and coming 2018 season.

Alfred Lao Minhao wins at Chinese Nationals

The recent 2017 China National Radio Car Championship was held in a multitude of classes and in the 1/10th 200mm Nitro Touring category it was Xray driver Alfred Lao Minhao with the win. Suffering from some problems in the triple qualifiers, Alfred would still qualify on the P2 spot and once the 45-minute main final got under way he quickly settled down and was able to take over the lead following a mishap of the leader on lap 2. From there Alfred was able to conserve a two to six seconds distance to the field and when the 2nd placed driver made a mistake around the 27-minute mark, Alfred would shift into cruise mode to bring home the championship from Li Cong (Serpent) in 2nd and Ho Wing Fai (Serpent) in 3rd (not pictured).

Balestri leads strong Infinity practice showing at Worlds

After 2 days of practice it is Dario Balestri who is fastest at the 1:8 Onroad World Championships in France.  The Italian led a 1,2,3 for Infinity setting the fastest 3-consecutive laps around the RC Circuit Jean Nougier track which drivers have unanimously described as difficult.  With Balestri’s fastest time posted in yesterday’s fifth & final run, the main improvement of today came from reigning champion Simon Kurzbuch who would manage to break up the Infinity domination, them having held the Top 7 times for most of the day. Despite engine issues in the 9th round of free practice he would end his curtailed run with 3-laps that where good enough to put his Shepherd driver fourth fastest. The only other non Infinity drivers in the Top 10 would be new Mugen signing Syoki Takahata in 7th and Bruno Coelho who took his Xray to 9th.
