Speed King Tour Rd4 – Report

Round 4 of this year’s Speed King Tour was held at the Crest Speedway indoor carpet track. A new track layout built in the week prior to the event meant the locals had less of an advantage and the organisers also decided to enforce a control tyre rule with the new Rush carpet tyre being chosen for the event. In the premier Touring Modified class it was Yokomo driver and local hero, Yugo Nagashima with the TQ from Crest Speedway shop assistant Hayato Ishioka (Kyosho) and Infinity driver Akio Sobue in 3rd. Right from the start of the 7-minute A-main event, Yugo was chased by Hayato with the top 2 being a class of their own. Hayato tried to catch up on Yugo but a mishap of Ishioka gave Nagashima room to breathe. In the end Yugo would maintain the gap to bring home the win from Hayato in 2nd while privateer Toyoki Yamada completed the top 3 result. Elsewhere in the Touring Stock class it was Kazuki Yamashita with the win. The Speed King Tour now has a small summer break with the next round being held at the Twin Ring Honguu outdoor track on September 24th.

Mikael Fransson takes Swedish 1/8th IC Track title

The recent Swedish Nitro On-road Nationals were held at the big and fast Örebro track with drivers from Sweden, Norway and Denmark in attendance. Saturday was pretty much washed away by the rain and so it was decided to have two additional rounds of qualifying on Sunday morning. In the 1/8th class some drivers decided to race anyway and so the overnight TQ was held by Mikael Fransson from Bengt Andersson. Sunday started off nice and dry and the two remaining rounds would be held in good track conditions. Again Mikael was the fastest in front of Norwegian top driver Tom-Erik Haaversen. Due to the revised time schedule the Super Pole format was cancelled and the top 4 drivers would directly proceed into the A-main with Tom-Erik Haaversen, Magnus Bengtsson and Bengt Andersson being the lucky ones to score a direct spot on the grid behind TQ holder Mikael. In the final Mikael Fransson was able to pull away directly from the start. Behind him it was a close battle between Magnus and Tom-Erik until the latter ran into problems. This meant Magnus could take the runner-up spot in front of Per-Ola Hård who ran a solid final and finished 3rd overall.

In the 1/8th class once again Simon Kurzbuch stamped his authority on his home track. He shocked his rivals with lap times under 12 seconds and was the only one to pull 25 laps in qualifying which meant he easily took the pole position for the final as the super pole race went to Silvio Hächler in front of Thomas Henzi and Michael Henzi.
