RC-Lemans Series Rd2 – Report

The second round of the RC-Lemans Series was held at the Dutch Apeldoorn track. A dusty track on Friday made things challenging for the handful of drivers that attended the free practice with overnight rain solving the dust issue but the track still offered relatively low traction. In the fast LMP1 Modified class Reinder Wilms laid down the fastest run after the three rounds of qualifying. The traction level increased from round to round and already in Q2 Reinder was a lap quicker compared to Q1 with Tim and Kai Altmann coming in 2nd and 3rd. Despite two quick runs from Reinder, Kai would snatch the overall TQ in the final round from Tim and Reinder. Christian Fischer and Joachim Behnken completed the top 5 result.

Swiss Nitro On-road Nationals Rd2 – Report

The second round of the Swiss Nitro On-road Nationals was held at the Aigen track in changing weather conditions. The event started off on Friday with practice rounds on a sugared track but during the afternoon it started to rain. On Saturday morning the track was still wet but it dried fast, allowing for another 20 minutes of practice to adapt the drivers and cars to the now much lower traction. Unfortunately during qualifying it started to rain again and in the 1/8th class it was Simon Kurzbuch who made the best out of the conditions to take the TQ in front of Hächler and Pesenti.

Dutch Electric On-road Nationals Rd1 – Report

The opening round of the Dutch Electric On-road National Championship was held at the tight and technical track of the HFCC. The event attracted about 40 entries thanks to some updated rules and in the premier Touring Modified class it was veteran racer Bart Wubben who took the day’s win courtesy of wins in A1 and A2. This allowed him to sit out the third and final main at what was his first national race in eight years, to watch the other driver battle for the remaining podium spots. Ultimately Mitchell van Es would take the runner-up spot from Peter Meurs in 3rd.

BRCA Touring Car Nationals – Report

This past weekend saw the popular south coast Adur circuit host round 2 of the BRCA 1/10 Touring car national series. Yet again this year the event was fully booked and the optional Saturday practice saw most drivers taking to the track to fine tune their setups. Raceday started overcast but the wind had died down overnight, releasing the car’s full potential. In the Modified class tyres again proved to dominate the driver’s strategy with defending champion Chris Grainger electing to sit out round 1 clearing the way for round 1 winner Olly Jefferies to take the first leg and then sit out round 2 himself. Chris took round 2 to even it up but Olly came back onto track to take the third leg and secure the pole. Alexander Hagberg took the final round to leave himself tied with Chris, but Chris took the second spot on the grid by virtue of a faster run time. 2016 Adur winner Elliott Harper lined up 4th on the grid with young Harley Eldridge 5th.

Coelho becomes first driver to pull off double ENS win

Having dominated the earlier 1:10 A-Main in France, Bruno Coelho has gone on to also win the 1:8 A-Main at the opening round of the Euro Nitro Series.  The feat makes the Xray driver the first in the championship’s history to win both finals on the same day and further highlights the Portuguese ace’s amazing ability to drive anything RC.  Having shown great form in 1:8 qualifying, a class in which he has previously never featured, he would carry that form into the 45-minute A-Main putting it up to World Champion Simon Kurzbuch.  Unfortunately the showdown was to last only 15-minutes as Kurzbuch’s chances of making it six ENS wins in a row would end with a flame out on the in-lap for his first scheduled tyre stop. While the Shepherd driver would push hard to try salvage a podium, while having a great battle for 2nd with Jilles Groskamp he would again run out of fuel on the last lap, his eventual classification 7th.  Having bumped up from the B-Main, Groskamp would be delighted with second with Toni Gruber benefiting from Kurzbuch running dry to complete the podium on what has been a hugely successful first visit for the ENS to the Mulhouse track.
