Kurzbuch tops first 1:8 qualifier ahead of Groskamp

Kurzbuch tops first 1:8 qualifier ahead of Groskamp

Simon Kurzbuch has topped the first round of qualifying at the German round of the Euro Nitro Series in Ettlingen.  Top Qualifier last year when the track made its debut on the ENS calendar, the Shepherd driver would post the only 19-lap run over the 4-minutes heading the times from the Infinity of Jilles Groskamp.  With just 1.2 seconds covering the Top 10, Serpent’s Merlin Depta would complete the Top 3 despite running in the third fastest heat.  Top seed for qualifying after open practice times were used to determine the heats when rain forced the cancellation of timed practice, Robert Pietsch would manage only the 10th fastest time. Making an error on the opening lap, this lost time would be compounded by his Mugen having too much brake over the final 2-minutes resulting in it being ‘difficult to drive’.

In the 1/10th Nitro Touring class Jeff Hamon (Mugen) would cruise to the win with Xray’s Tim Lee grabbing the runner-up spot after having a mixed race, dropping down the order while fighting with another car but making a compact to second. Mazzeo tops TP1 at ENS Germany

Mazzeo tops TP1 at ENS Germany

Despite a flight delay causing him to miss yesterday’s practice, Alessio Mazzeo has topped the first round of timed practice at Round 2 of the Euro Nitro Series in Germany.  Setting the fastest 3-consecutive laps ahead of Kyle Branson ad Jilles Groskamp, the Serpent driver’s time could prove significant.  With heavy rain returning over Minidrom Ettlingen as the first 1:8 seeding round was underway, the latest rain delay may mean the qualifying heats may now be based off the single timed practice.  While good news for Mazzeo, such a scenario would leave ENS Italy Top Qualifier Bruno Coelho in the third fastest heat as the Xray driver struggled for traction in TP1 and could only manage the 27th fastest time.

Chen Yanfu wins at Beijing BGP opening race

The recent Beijing BGP opening race saw the running of a 1/12th 13.5T spec class and it was Lu Yi Heng (Xray) who took the TQ after the triple qualifiers. The battle for the overall TQ was a very close one with Lu finally grabbing the TQ in the third and final qualifier by 0.4 seconds. In the triple A-mains Lu suffered from setup issues with the car constantly traction rolling on the grippy CRC black carpet. Chen Yanfu (Xray) made maximum use of the situation to bring home the win from TQ holder Lu Yi Heng while Liu Yunan (Kyosho) completed the top 3 result.

EttlingenTrackS-770x343

Simon Kurzbuch and Dirk Wischnewski travel to Germany this weekend aiming to build on the early points lead victory brought them at the Euro Nitro Series season opener in April. Following an 8-week break since the Bologna event, the onroad nitro championship returns to Minidrom Ettlingen which last year made its first appearance on the ENS calendar bringing contrasting results for the two drivers. For 1:10 specialist Wishnewski, his home race would end a 6-year drought of international wins as he notched up both his and Team Shepherd’s first victory in the high profile championship. For Kurzbuch, then as the reigning ENS Champion, the race would effectively end his title hopes as the Top Qualifier finished only 7th. As he struggled, up front it was the new champion to be Dario Balestri who would claim his first 1:8 victory of the ENS.
