Surikarn Chaidajsuriya to join VBC factory team

VBC Racing have signed former World Champion Surikarn Chaidajsuriya to be a factory team driver and R&D member for 2014. A very experienced racer, Surikarn will be provide support to team drivers at races as well as help with the development of future products. The Thai driver will participate around Thailand with the WildFire D06 touring car, Lightning12 pan car and Twelve FF12 FWD touring car. He had the following to say:

I am honoured and very excited to be the part of the VBC Racing Team and being able to work with the VBC development team, this allows me to test new VBC products and prototypes extensively in my new HugeRC track facility giving important feedback to the team very efficiently. I am sure this will be a very successful year for VBC Racing and myself.

Volker continues to reign at DHI

Volker continues to reign at DHI

Having topped practice and then TQ’d the opening round of qualifying yesterday, Ronald Volker continued his reign at the 14th running of the DHI Cup by kicking off Day 2 of the Danish event by topping the second of the four qualifiers. The Team Yokomo ace took the round once again ahead of Team Xray’s Adrian Berntsen with Serpent’s Marc Fischer completing the Top 3. Exiting the boundaries of the track twice as his Tamiya understeered off the track, Marc Rheinard failed to complete the full 5-minutes.

No surprises as Volker TQ opening DHI qualifier

The opening round of qualifying threw up no real surprises as Team Yokomo’s Ronald Volker TQ’d the opening round of qualifying ahead of defending Champion Adrian Berntsen and Marc Rheinard.  Bringing the first day of action at the 14th running of the famous Danish event to a close Volker topped the first of the four scheduled qualifiers with a time of 25-laps in 5:11.289 with Bernsten just over 1 second adrift. Despite setting the fastest lap of Q1, Rheinard could not make a 25-lap run finishing with a time of 5:00.764.

Volker sets early pace at DHI Cup

Ronald Volker has set the early pace on the opening day of the DHI Cup in Denmark, the Team Yokomo driver topping the first timed practice from last year’s event winner Adrian Berntsen.  A three time winner of the event, Volker posted a time of 37.377 for his 3-fastest consecutive laps compared to Berntsen’s 37.423 with Tamiya’s Marc Rheinard third over 3/10ths of a second further a drift.

Francesco Tironi joins Team Shepherd for 2014

Top Italian racer Francesco Tironi has signed to run for Team Shepherd in the upcoming 2014 season. The multiple Italian Champion, Worlds podium finisher and EC / ENS finalist is going to use the Velox V10 for 1/10th scale and the Velox V8 for 1/8th scale at both European championships, the 1/10th Worlds and the ENS series. Being well know for his positive attitude he will additionally give some track support at races in Italy. Francesco had the following to say:

First of all I would like to thank Capricorn for the last two years. But now it’s time to move on and I’m very happy to join the Shepherd factory team. Especially after their multiple 1/8th EC titles in 2013 and the big steps they made with their innovations on the V10 PRO it will be pleasure to be a part of this team. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming races and I would like to thank Patrick and the whole Shepherd crew for this great opportunity.

Birinyi & Kálnay win in Budapest

Birinyi & Kálnay win in Budapest

The 4th round of the RCProf Speedpassion Challenge was held in Budapest racing Stock 13.5T and Modified touring car. The 13.5T Stock class had Xray driver János Birinyi taking TQ after winning all of the three qualifying rounds. He then went on to win the first and second A final to take the day’s win early. Gábor Forrai and Péter Taál completed the top 3 result. In the Modified class Barnabás Tóth and Zsolt Kálnay where fighting for the pole position with the better end for Barnabás but come the finals Zsolt was able to grab the win in A1 and A2 after the leader made early mistakes allowing Zsolt to pass. This handed him the overall win in front of Barnabás Tóth and Christian Faur.

XRD Engines have bagged themselves another big name with the signing of current ROAR National Champion DJ Apolaro to a 2 year deal. The Capricorn driver moves to his new sponsor having run 6 years for Novarossi previously. DJ gave the following statement:

I would like to thank all the people at Novarossi World for the 6 great years of support, especially Laura and Mrs Grazia. As I embark on this new venture, I look forward to making a great relationship with the XRD staff. Patrizio and Lorenzo have been very welcoming and we are going to work very hard to provide the best products for the future of XRD. JJ Wang joins HB/HPI Factory team

JJ Wang joins HB/HPI Factory team

More Team HB / HPI announcements with JJ Wang set to again race for Team HB in Electric 1/10th Touring Car in 2014. JJ has previously represented HB / HPI competing with the TCXX in Europe, America and Asia on behalf of HPI China but he has now joined the ranks of their World Championship winning HB Factory team. JJ had this to say:
