Klausner & Singer win Austrian champs Rd5

Last weekend the penultimate leg of the Austrian nitro on-road nationals took place at the Aigen/Schlaegl track, the venue for next year’s IC 1/8th on-road B European Championships. Wet track conditions on Saturday made for a very quiet practice. Later in the afternoon the track started to become dry and all drivers tried to get as much track time as possible. The first qualifying round on Saturday was run at good track conditions and was dominated by Michael Klausner in 1/8th and Manual Singer in the 1/10th class. On Sunday the predicted bad weather meant that nobody was able to improve times and drivers like Lubischa Paunovic, Alain Levy, Harald Wendy,  Peter Grandinger and Erich Scharler not even made it into the final.

Essex Winter Series – Announcement

The organisers of the Essex Winter Series are pleased to announce the series will return for a second season in 2012/13. The EWS quickly grew throughout its inaugural championship in 2011/12 to become one of the premier indoor series in the UK. Featuring one of the largest carpet circuits in the world with 35×22 metres, and a fully heated, spacious pitting area, the series attracted drivers from all across the UK. The 2012/13 season promises to be even better than before as we already have confirmations that a number of top UK National racers will be attending multiple rounds of the season, in an attempt to take the title from defending champion, Paul Pinkney. There are very few rule changes for the second season of the championship, reflecting the success of the series and support of the drivers. The season takes place over six 1-day rounds, starting in October 2012 and running through to March 2013. Classes are for 1/10th Electric Touring cars, with 13.5 and 21.5 turn motors, speeds ideally suited to the carpet circuit. Entries will open very soon at www.centralbooking.org, where full rules, all dates and further information can be found. For more details, please contact Oli Meggitt here.

British Indoor Winter Series – Announcement

Back by popular demand is the World Famous BIWS series that was such a major part of the UK Touring Car racing scene in the 2000’s. Top drivers who have graduated from this series include Andy Moore, Elliott Harper, Olly Jefferies, Ben Cosgrove, Jimmy Maddison and Jonny Bowden to name just a few. The BIWS series has always been the fastest indoor winter series in the UK always allowing the latest technology to flourish with a laid back set of rules designed to encourage fun and close competitive racing. We race on a blue rubber floor which offers very similar grip levels to tarmac. BIWS were amongst the first to adopt LiPo batteries and brushless motors into a major competitive series, not to mention the fact that it is an absolute equal series for everyone as no additives are allowed at all. Moore-Speed tyres have been chosen as the control tyre with 1 set per driver per meeting regulation. This year sees the return of the Modified Touring Car Class which should simply be breath taking to watch the some of the UK if not the Worlds best drivers competing for the glory of being the BIWS Champion. The series starts October 21st 2012 and ends on the 10th of February 2013. Full information including entry details and rules can be found here.

Søren Boy Holst is Danish national champion

After four races on three different tracks all over Denmark, the national Danish touring car outdoor championship would be decided in fifth and final race at the track of Vejle, in the Western part of Denmark some 250km from the capital Copenhagen. Practice on Saturday was washed away by the rain but at least the sun came out in the early evening giving the drivers the chance to get at least some four or five runs. Sunday again was affected by the weather and changing track conditions. The 15 SuperStock drivers spend a lot of time on changing tires, waterproofing the car, and thinking about new strategies.

Ahn Hyun Ho takes 2012 Korean GP title

Serpent driver Ahn Hyun Ho took the 2012 Korean national championship title that was held at the Hitec circuit. He suffered a terrible qualifying and had to bump up to the main final in sizzling hot weather conditions. Coming from fifth and with three laps into the final, he gained the lead but had to refuel more often compared to his competitors due to a higher fuel consumption of his engine. After the final pit stops and with four and a half minutes to go he was still in the lead but he had to refuel again due to a runtime of only four minutes and 15 seconds. He decided to take the risk and reduced the speed in order to spare a slash and dash pit stop but he flamed out with just 10 seconds to go. He crossed the line in second place but the racer winner was excluded because of his car’s body shell being too low handing the race win to Ahn Hyun Ho.

Kurzbuch brothers win 1/8th Swiss champs

Last weekend the final race for the Swiss Championship 2012 took place in Langenthal. The title in the category 1/8 Amateur was already given, but in the 1/8 Expert class was still up for grabs with Simon Kurzbuch having a slight advantage over the other candidates. The weather forecast promised rain for the whole weekend but at the end it was a dry race without the wet stuff from above.  As expected the Kurzbuch brothers had a slight advantage over the other drivers thanks to Langenthal being their home track and so they dominated the qualifiers and took TQ in their respective classes.
