Hellquist & Andersson win 2011 Swedish Cup

Hellquist & Andersson win 2011 Swedish Cup

The Swedish cup consists of 6 races with the best 3 results counting plus the result from the final race. Since it was 60 points for a win in the final race instead of the normal 50 at the previous races it was an open affair for many of the top drivers. After the nitro smoke had cleared from the final race of the season it was Markus Hellquist who stood on top of the podium in the 1/10 200mm class for the Örebro Race finale and with this result was the overall winner of Swedish Cup. Mikael Fransson ended up in second place overall and Per-Ola Hård claimed third place. All drivers competing for the same club Wäxjö MS, and also running the same cars, the Serpent 733. In the 1/8th class Bengt Andersson took overall cup win with Marcus Lindner in second and Niklas Johansson in third place.

Kyle Branson wins Rd8 takes British 1/8th title

Kyle Branson wins Rd8 takes British 1/8th title

The 8th Round of the Championship was hosted by the Cotswold Club situated within the Cotswold airport complex. The weather forecast was for a wet Saturday and a dry Sunday, but this turned out to be the opposite which had all the drivers frantically adding wet setups to their cars and changing to damp tires. Every driver decided a banker time was required since due to the open nature of the track surroundings and no wind would result in the track taking a long time to dry out, if at all. In first round of qualifying, it was the top 5 who pulled out a good lead. Kyle Branson then broke away with Tim Wood chasing hard. Neil Diver who was on a charge had engine trouble and Andy North / Richard Hicklin made errors which resulted in slower times and no place in the top final at present. Round 2 was similar conditions to round 1 but times were generally slower but Neil Diver did improve to guarantee a final position.

DJ Apolaro wins ROAR Sedan Nationals

DJ Apolaro wins ROAR Sedan Nationals

This past weekend we had the 2011 National Championship Race held at the ControlFreakz track in Chaplin CT and DJ Apolaro sent us this report. All the big players had come out to claim the prize and fight it out for the top spot. I was running both classes, as in the US they combine 1/8 scale and Sedan. What also makes it tough is they only qualify the top 4 into the final, which could mean a lot of driving to try and advance from a Semi or ¼ final.

Paolo Morganti wins 1/8 ROAR Nationals

Paolo Morganti wins 1/8 ROAR Nationals

Paolo Morganti was in great shape in 1/8 scale class at the ROAR Nationals held in Chaplin USA last weekend. Due to rain, qualifying was run over just 3 rounds and it was Morganti who took the TQ honors with his Serpent 966 ahead of DJ Apolaro, Chris Tosolini and Joaquin deSoto. In the final Morganti kept a very high pace, only giving up the lead a few times when he pitted for fuel. He would eventually take the win by 2 laps from Capricorn team mates Chris Tosolini and Joaquin DeSoto in 2nd and 3rd.

Claus Ryeskov wins Danish 200mm title

Claus Ryeskov wins Danish 200mm title

Even after one of the worst summers in Danish history, all 5 race weekends of the 2011 Danish National 200mm Championships in Vejle, Næstved, Greve, Hillerød and Odense were run in dry weather. The last race of the championship, on a great track for 1:10 cars, was held in Odense with Claus Ryeskov top qualifier, even though Martin NO set the fastest lap time of the qualifying rounds. So the stage was set for an exciting feature race but unfortunately it did not materialise as Martin NO had motor problems within the first 8 minutes of the race. As a result of this, Claus Ryeskov ran a comfortable race with his Novarossi powered Xray and led from start to finish, while 2nd place went to Heinrich Weizer with some nice driving with a borrowed Xray from Claus. Claus Ryeskov won 4 out of the 5 championship rounds and took the title from Martin N.O Hansen driving a Serpent with and Xray driver Daniel Michaelsen in 3rd.

Thanks to Claus Ryeskov for the report.
