2017 Masters of Dirt – Report

Only in its 3rd year, The Masters of Dirt hosted by Beach RC Hobbies and Raceway in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has quickly evolved into one of the best races on the east coast. With its grippy clay/dirt mixed surface, Beach RC has slowly become a racer’s favorite due to the entertaining high grip surface and unique square shape layout making for fun and interesting racing. Attracting nearly 300 entries this year, the 2017 MoD has grown each and every year as this year drew in some of the industry’s best talents to battle in three different Modified classes in order to crown one overall multi-class champion. The combined classes include the 2WD Modified class, 4WD Modified, and one of the Mod Truck classes like Mod Stadium or Mod Short Course. Each racer that entered the three classes could qualify for the MoD title, but only one would emerge MoD Champion with the best score in all three classes.

Belgian SCT Cup Rd6 – Report

Round 6 of the Belgian SCT Cup was held at the Off-road Racing RC Torhout club. The event marked the serie’s first visit at the venue whose 250 metres long astro turf track offers both technical and flatout sections, with some tricky jumps in between that require very precise driving. Due to rainy weather in the built up to the event, the track was still wet in the morning and it took until the afternoon to dry up, making tyre choice critical. In Pro2 qualifying, Géry Ledocq (Kyosho) took the TQ by winning all three rounds while Nicolas Evens (TLR) obtained the second spot of the grid despite some mechanical issues in the final run. Tom Vercarre (TLR) and Guillaume Laffut (TeamC) fought for P3 all morning long and eventually it was Tom who rounded out the top 3 results.

Team Associated Offroad Championships – Report

The Team Associated Offroad Championships was hosted by Trackside Hobbies and Raceway this past weekend and it had become one of the most anticipated races on the Eastcoast. This year, the AE race consisted of 330 entries and a star-studded field of drivers to battle on the legendary Trackside Raceway. Taking the checkered flag in the 2WD Modified class was Team Associated’s Ryan Cavalieri, who was able to set TQ and go on to win A1 by 0.17 seconds over AE teammate Dustin Evans. A2 came much easier as Cav took the win by four seconds over 2nd place finisher Jared Tebo (Kyosho). With a clutch win in A3, Spencer Rivkin (Team Associated) would catapult himself up to 3rd and get on the podium as Dustin finished 2nd.

Fall Super Cup Rd2 – Report

For the first time in Super Cup history, the JConcepts Super Cup Championship Series was held outside of the Florida State line and ventured into Savannah, Georgia’s Phil Hurd Raceway. 3-time host to the US Offroad Nationals in 91, 92, and 95, Phil Hurd Raceway is a track well known for its rich history and this year is celebrating 30 years of operation. The track is massive resembling more of a 1/8th track than 1/10th. With room to spare, lap times were in the 31 second plus range making mistake free runs extremely difficult. With heavy rain falling on Friday, Saturday morning saw a slow start to the day as the track crew fought hard to get the track race ready. As the sun came out, the track was quickly drying and racing was underway just around 2pm. The flow of the track was great and the layout extremely fun with a Phil Hurd twist. By the mains, the grip was much higher allowing cars to put the power down and made for a great night of racing under the lights.
