Hartson TQ's opening 2WD qualifier

Steven Hartson has TQ’d the opening round of 2WD Buggy at the JConcepts Winter Indoor Nationals, the Team Associated driver taking his new B5 to the fastest time in the first of the three qualifiers at SmacTrac ahead of TLR’s Cody Hollis.  Having set the pace in yesterday’s timed practice, Tanner Denney looked on target to continue where he left off setting the TQ pace until he came across traffic that would hamper his run leaving him drop back to finished a slightly frustrated 3rd.

110% RC Racing clinic report

110% RC Racing clinic

The inaugural 110% RC Racing clinic is in the books and it was a huge success. Ty and Gord Tessmann sent us the following report. ‘There were 9 teams (one team couldn’t make it at the last minute) consisting of a driver and a mechanic.  The ages of the participants ranged from 9 to 47 yrs old, and as it turned out we had a lot of father and son duos participating.  The participants were very receptive to what we had to say and we were impressed by their willingness to learn.  Over the four days there were a lot of questions and the occasional debate.  We did see noticeable improvement in the participants driving from the first time on the track to the last time, they worked very hard.  The youngest driver, Peyton at 9 yrs old, reminded me of Ty when he was that age, very smooth and consistent on the track and very quiet, it was awesome to see a huge improvement in him.

Rules Of Popularity

Rules Of Popularity

After three long days, I sat down to write this column as we waited for our Euro Tunnel crossing on our journey home from this weekend’s ETS race. Being just one of the 320 racers present for what was quite probably Europe’s largest ever R/C race (no doubt until next year!) I had a number of opportunities to take a step back during the weekend to try to think about what it really is that makes an event popular.

IFMAR U-turn as 1/12th Worlds back on carpet

Control tires for IFMAR 1/8th Worlds

IFMAR have made the surprise announcement that the upcoming 1/12th scale World Championships will be held on carpet having originally made the decision to have the event on asphalt with a control tire. The U-turn seems to have come about following pressure from racers who made their feelings known regarding the choice of surface. We would expect that with the event returning to carpet that tire choice will once again be open. We wait for further details.
