BRCA LMP Nationals Rd6 – Report

The sixth and final round of the 2018/2019 BRCA 1/12th nationals took place last weekend in Chesterfield. The Chesterfield club is one of the stalwarts of the BRCA national series and this year treated us to new carpet to race on. The club’s members laid a fast flowing track and went the extra mile marking out the corners with kerbs and coloured run off areas making the track look fantastic. A capacity entry of 80 drivers appreciated the clubs efforts and there was a great atmosphere in the hall. On Saturday racers competed in the 13.5 blinky stock championship with the field split into F1, F2 and F3 grades. In F1, this year’s champion David Spashett again demonstrated the form that won the championship and took pole position from Andy Murray with Matthew Varah in third. David and Andy set off nose to tail and pulled a gap from Matt Lax who had moved up to third from fifth on the grid. Andy had a very fast car and was putting pressure on David who put his years of experience to good use and drove a tidy line to keep Andy behind before unfortunately collecting a crashed car allowing Andy through. This time it was David’s turn to give chase and the pair traded almost identical lap times for the next few minutes. Unfortunately contact while lapping a backmarker swapped the lead again and this time David would bring his car home for the win with Andy in a close second. Matt Lax drove a clean controlled drive to complete the top three.

HB Racing D8 series front 2-dot B mount

Coming from HB Racing and made for their 1/8th scale D8 series buggy and truggy platforms is a new 2-dot B front suspension mount. This new B (+0.7mm) front suspension hanger is a middle setting between the 1-dot and 3-dot mounts. It was developed based on feedback from HB Racing’s team drivers as a good all-around setup. The B mount allows racers to fine-tune the front kick-up and roll centre as it controls the location of the rearmost end of the front suspension hinge pins. A higher B mount location makes the car smoother and easier to drive when the grip is high. The mount comes machined from aluminium and is anodised in black for wear and looks.

Leo Arnold wins French 1/10th 200mm opener

Last weekend, the first round of the French 1/10th 200mm Nitro Championship took place in Angouleme, in the western part of France. Over 70 drivers made the trip to compete on the low to medium-bite track that offered a fast layout and a technical chicane just before the main straight. In the qualifiers it was a close battle between Leo Arnold and Quentin Leroux for the TQ spot. In the end Leo took the TQ spot by only 0.1s on Quentin Leroux. For the 45-minute final it was the same story and a close battle was seen during the first 15 minutes between these two drivers but ultimately Leo Arnold (Xray) took the win with a 2 laps margin in front of the Capricorn duo of Kevin Rasquin in 2nd and Thomas Guillon in 3rd.

The SWorkz driver won the first two rounds of the E-Buggy A-main to grabbed his first title of the day in front of Ryan Lutz and Kyosho’s Wataru Takashiro. The past weekend saw the fifth and final round of the new indoor carpet series at Essex Carpet Clash in the south of England. With a lot of people now looking to venture outside with the summer season approaching, it was great to see so many drivers attending and seeing out the series. With both the 4WD and 2WD championship already won, it was always going to be who could better their score and move up the rankings. This round saw 4WD champion Ed Kerry switch class opening up the top step for another racer. Mark Lewis, who has been strong throughout the series took advance of this by taking all 4 rounds of qualifying and continued to do the same in the finals, making it an unbeatable days drive for him. Lee Hedges who has also shown his pace this season, tried his best to battle for the top spot but could only manage to be second best on this day, finishing 2nd in each run. Darren Lewis and Jordan Coleman would have great rounds and equalling on points, only to be determined on the count-back and fastest qualifying time, where Darren would line up 3rd ahead of Jordan. Darren managed to hold his grid position for the 3 leg finals and is where he finished up so the final standing were 1st Mark Lewis, 2nd Lee Hedges, 3rd Darren Lewis.

Exotek Racing WR8 Flux speed chassis conversion

Exotek Racing have announced the release of a high speed carbon fibre chassis conversion set for the HPI WR8 Flux Gymkhana 1/8 4WD rally car. The extra light weight conversion that removes all of the unneeded parts and hardware that transforms the WR8 into a super streamlined and race worthy performance chassis, scrubbing about 220g of weight compared to the stock set up. The rigid but very light weight carbon fibre chassis is mated to a reinforced alloy nose plate for durability and the optimised weight balance via extra mounting holes allows the motor and battery to be mounted at the rear of the chassis for improved rear traction and jumping balance. Alloy battery cups are multi-positioned to allow front or rear and left or right weight balance which is great for 2S or 3sS battery positioning using hard case batteries. Finally, the chassis is topped off with an alloy centre chassis brace and alloy servo mounts to also improve on lowering the overall centre of gravity.
