Canas wraps up National title with 3 from 3

Factory Sworkz star Juan Carlos Canas has wrapped up the Spanish 1:8 Nitro Buggy National title early with his third win of the season in as many races.  The reigning European Champion, who this year has the potential to consecutively hold a National, European and World title, secured the TQ and win at the third round which was hosted at the Circuito de Alhaurin de la Torre over the weekend.  Winner of the Silver State Indoor Championships in the US last month, starting from pole after winning his Semi Final in the fastest time, Canas was chased home over the 45-minute final by the Tekno of João Figueiredo, who after qualifying P18 after a tough five rounds of heats, started 4th on the grid.  Posting the fastest lap of the race, in the end he would finish just 4.7-seconds back from Canas.  Despite a bad tyre choice, Daniel Pariente made it a second Tekno on the podium as he finished third.

Boots gets first win of BRCA title defence

Round 2 of the BRCA 1:8 Nitro Buggy British National Championship took place in Shrewsbury over the weekend where Sworkz’s Elliott Boots registered the first win of his title defence.  In qualifying it was the Xray of season opener winner Jonathan Skidmore who would take TQ just as he did at Round 1 with Boots 2nd and the Team Associated of Neil Cragg third.  In the Semi Finals, the event would come to an early finish for Skidmore who misjudged the back step up, brushed the wooden board and broke the car just 5 laps in.  With Boots winning his Semi final he took up pole position for the final ahead of the WIRC of Lewis Jones, Cragg and Michael Lewis.  Just as the 45-minute final had started Boots hit trouble.  A flameout caused by a stone on Lap 1 meant he was in the pits and despite the fast reactions of his pitman, the former European Champion found himself rejoining 2-laps down.  Making a charge back through the field, with 8-minutes to go he had worked his way back to the front eventually crossing the finish line 2-laps clear of Cragg with the HB of Graham Alsop completing the podium.  A five round championship, Brookthorpe is the next stop for drivers with the third round taking on June 15/16.

Canas wins Silver State Indoor Championships

Sworkz Juan Carlos Canas took the big win at the 2024 Silver State Indoor Championships, the Spanish driver winning Pro Nitro Buggy ahead of the Tekno of Truggy Champion Ryan Maifield and TLR’s Dakotah Phend.  Once again attracting a massive 1100+ entries, qualifying for the Las Vegas event would see Maifield secure the TQ honours after the completion of the 3 rounds ahead of Team Associated’s Spencer Rivkin with Canas third and Phend P4.  In the 45-minute final, Rivkin enjoyed a few laps a the front early on before Maifield took charge but 10-minutes in costly mistakes dropped him back.  With Canas taking the lead, pit stops giving Phend the lead for a few laps before everything settled down, once in front the European Champion edged out a lead eventually finishing with over 12-seconds on Maifield.  Phend would complete the podium a further 5-seconds back.  Having won the event a year earlier, Marco Barufollo would finish 5th at South Point Casino and Hotel behind Seth VanDalen.  In Truggy, Maifield made the class his own taking the TQ and win from Mason Fuller and Phend, the Top 3 finishing in the same order as they started.  In eBuggy, Top Qualifier Fuller won followed home by Maifield and Canas.

Sworkz ‘Mirror Coating’ Shock Bodies

Sworkz has released a new technology it is calling ‘Mirror Coating’ which is on its latest S35 BBS optional shock bodies.  The new coating creates the lowest possible friction inside the shock body and the hardest possible protection on the outside to work perfectly with Sworkz’ BBS Precision Plastic Shock Pistons.  Featuring laser engraved logos the new bodies have already proven themselves in the hands of Elliott Boots who used them on his victory at the DNC while more recently Atsushi Hara used them as he took a podium finish on his competitive 1:8 Buggy return at the recent Philippine Masters.

Neumann takes Q2 at Philippine Masters

Day 2 of qualifying at the Philippine Masters kicked off with another of this year’s event rookies posting a TQ run as Sworkz’ Joern Neumann topped the second of the four qualifiers from Q1 pace setter Alex Bernadzik.  Having seen his Q1 run derailed when he collected another buggy that was on its roof and dropping him back to a P6, the German would have a similar scare in Q2 as he came upon a broken buggy towards the end of the qualifier but this time he got round it without much delay.  At the finish he had 1.7-seconds from a very quick Bernadzik who put in a strong recovery drive following his copybook mistake to the one he survived at the end of his Q1 run yesterday to hang on to the TQ.  Backing up his P2 from yesterday, Atsushi Hara would complete the Top 3 followed by defending Philippine Masters Champion Davide Ongaro, the double World Champion still yet to find his rhythm here in Manila.  The two Ryan’s completed the Top 6, Lutz finishing ahead of Pavidis.
