Xray’s Jan Popic recently took the Austrian Electric Touring Car Junior Championship title after finishing in 10th place overall. Some missed races due to other commitments prevented him from achieving a better overall result but nevertheless he became the best junior of the 2014 season.

The organisers of the ICC have confirmed that the event will return in 2015. Building on the success of last year’s event, which saw the UK’s Kyle Branson narrowly beating top German drivers Freddy Sudhoff and Yannic Prumper, the event will return across the weekend of the 20th to 22nd February 2015. The format will remain largely unchanged for 2015, being held at the same location in Essex, South-East England, and organised by the world-famous EWS Team and RC media personality Oli Meggitt. There has been a slight tweak to the classes for 2015 – the Open Modified and HPI Vintage Challenge classes return, but the Stock and Pro Stock classes have been combined into the new Super Stock class – for 13.5T motors with zero timing (“blinky”) speed controllers. After a thrilling end of season race in Aigle, Switzerland Team Shepherd was able to claim the top 4 places in the overall point standings of the 1/8th Electric On-road class with 26 drivers participating in total. Before the last races 11 and 12 of the MC-Best Cup, Stefan Scheidegger was leading the category by a small margin over André Krebs and Oliver Mülhauser, followed by Martin Messerli in 4th all using the Shepherd Velox V8.

After five races on different tracks all over Holland, the national Dutch Touring Car outdoor championship in both the Modified and Stock class would be decided in the 6th and final race. Qualifying started on a dry track on Sunday with Mitchel van Es seeming to be the man to beat in the Modified category. Unfortunately he made a small mistake on the last lap of the first qualifier loosing the TQ to Rob Jansen. In the Stock class Robert Krens posted a clean TQ run with a gap of a couple of seconds in front of Sybrand de Boer and Jitse Miedema.

Francisco Rinaldi has recently won at the Argentine 1/8th nitro on-road championships. He took the win with his Novarossi-powered Serpent ride in front of Agusto Quinteros (Serpent/Novarossi) and TQ Agustin Cutini (Mugen/Novarossi).

The last round of the US Midwest Series took place in Toledo, Ohio. Racing started on Saturday with open practice, followed by three rounds of qualifying. On Sunday, one additional round of qualifying was run, followed by 30 minute finals for each main. In 200mm Sedan A-main Loran Whiting was able to take a solid lead some laps into the race after qualifying 3rd. Towards the end of the race, Loran failed to hear her dad/pitman call her into the pits for a fuel stop and flamed out at the end of the sweeper. But with a 2 lap lead and following a quick restart Loran kept her leading position. At the end she was able to take the win even with her car running out of rubber in the closing stages.

Ty Tessmann is the new 1:8 Offroad World Champion. Having stamped his authority on the Sicilian event in early qualifying, the HB driver would take victory in the Main in rather convincing fashion. Starting from second on the grid the Canadian would take control of the race following problems for pole position starter Ryan Maifield to win by a comfortable margin of Team Associated’s Ryan Cavallieri and Mugen’s Carson Wernimont. Leading the race a steering servo failure would rob Maifield a true shot at obtaining the one title that has eluded the American offroad star. The only other driver to look like a potential treat to Tessmann, having denied the 21-year-old the win 2-years-ago in Argentina, outgoing champion Robert Batlle would also hit trouble when his Mugen ran out of fuel just metres before a scheduled pitstop.

Last weekend the HNMC Summer Series came to an end with 60 plus racers entered the final round. The Nitro Buggy TQ went to Kevin Brunsden who was pushed hard by Karl Jackson and Tommy Chung. In the popular E-Buggy class Nigel Morris grabbed the prestigious TQ while in Nitro Truggy Michael Shorey ended the qualifiers sitting on top of the timing sheets.
