Xray Asia Challenge – report

The Xray Asia Challenge 2012 was held at the RC Addict track in Bangkok, Thailand. This was the first time in many years that Xray arranged this kind of event in Asia and thus it was expected to become a great success. More than 100 entries in 1:10 electric and 1:10 nitro touring car classes was a strong field with lots of local and international talent. As the 2012 IFMAR World Championships will be held at this same track, it was also a great opportunity to get some track time and prepare for that important race. Most of the Xray factory team were in attendance with their NT1 cars. Some of the European team drivers even joined both categories.

Alberto Maestre wins Spanish F1 champs

The final round of the Spanish Formula 1 championship took place at the technical track of Asoger. The weather was perfect despite a rainy Saturday morning. Forecast for Sunday promised a sunny day so most drivers waited for better track conditions and come Sunday Jesus Davila (Corally) took TQ as he was the only driver to post an 18 laps run. He also won the first A final followed by Alberto C Maestre and Gonzalo Orus. The second final looked to be a blueprint of the first one but on lap 11 Jesus made a mistake and collided with another driver handing the win to Alberto. This meant the third and final race would decide over the win and again Jesus was super fast but with less than one minute left he made a small mistake, left too much room for Alberto who slipped trough in a corner and won the third A final, the race and also the championship.

Hettrich & Wahl win at BaWü Cup

The BaWü Cup in Konstanz in the South of Germany was one of the first carpet races of the 2012/2013 season and a great opportunity for many teams to try out new parts for the upcoming ETS race in Mühlheim Kerlich. The organizers tried a new track layout for this year with a technical section at the first part of the lap and a more open and flowing part for the remainder of the lap. The new layout was well accepted by the drivers and made for some challenges when setting up the cars. In the stock blinky mode class it was T-Shox team-drivers Tobias Vogel, who won the German Stock Championship, and also Valentin Hettrich who showed a strong practice and also qualifying pace. Valentin took the last two rounds of qualifying and also the TQ spot for the finals. For the A-mains Tobias got the car better and better using the same setup Valentin was using. Valentin was on a roll and took the first two A-mains in style. Tobias however did not give up and took the win in the third and last A-main.

Heremans takes Belgian title as Mesker wins final

Driving smoothly and consistently, Stefan Mesker (above) drove his X Factory X-6 Squared mid-motor buggy to a solid win in the final round of the B.N.K. Championship at Bergschenhoek near Rotterdam. Mesker took all three rounds of qualifying by five seconds or more, good for the TQ position on the grid. He then took a wire-to-wire win in A1. In A2, with 2 laps remaining, Mesker made a mistake allowing Bryan Van Rijnberk to get past and Mesker finished second. A3 was another wire-to-wire win for Stefan. The BNK Series takes in 7 races at different venues across Belgium and Holland, then awards two Championships, one for each nation. This year’s Belgian Championship goes to Bruno ‘Elvo’ Heremans with his X-6 Squared.  X Factory drivers won five of the seven races, with Wouter Wynen taking three, Elvo one, and Mesker the last round. Heremans combined his win with five third-place finishes to take the Belgian crown.
