Chris Grainger takes title at BRCA Rd4

Chris Grainger takes title at BRCA Rd4

Chris Grainger retained his national touring car title in fine style with yet another win at the fast flowing Halifax circuit last weekend. Coming into round 4 at Halifax, Chris was lying second in the BRCA National touring series, but despite this was still favourite to take the title as a top three finish would be enough for the Yokomo driver. Chris started his campaign in fine style taking FTD ahead of Olly Jefferies and Ben Cosgrove, two of his main championship rivals. The first final saw Chris ease away from Olly in the early stages, Olly stayed consistent but just lacked that little extra pace to challenge Chris, Chris went on to take leg from Olly and Ben. Leg two and real hard fought race, Ben came through from second as Chris half spun early in the race unfortunately collecting Olly and allowing the chasing pack through, Chris got back up too second but Ben took the leg two win. A win for Chris in leg three was enough to take the overall win and in doing so secure another National title.

Rheinard wins Euros twice in one day!

Winners Podium

Marc Rheinard has won the European Touring Car Championship for the second time in one day!! Having won the second leg of the A Mains the German looked to have wrapped up his first ever Touring Car Euros title only for his cells to fail post race scrutiny. Excluded from the results of Leg 2 this meant the title would have to be decided in the final Leg and shadowing Top Qualifier Ronald Volker throughout the race, Rheinard put in a calculated drive to take second and reinstate himself as the 2008 Champion.

Rheinard excluded, title fight still on

Marc Rheinard excluded from Leg 2

Breaking news here from Vila Real is that Marc Rheinard has been excluded from his victory in A Main Leg 2 after his cells failed post race scrutiny. The cells failed to meet the maximum permitted length as laid down by the sports governing body EFRA. The exclusion hands the win to Sweden’s Viktor Wilck and means the European title is still wide open with anyone of seven drivers still able to win the title.

Rheinard wins Leg1 in Spain

Marc Rheinard

Marc Rheinard has taken victory in the opening Leg of the A Mains here in Vila Real in what was an incident filled race which saw the Top Qualifier & defending Champion Ronald Volker completing just 4 laps. From the start it was Volker who lead from the hard chasing pack with Rheinard right on the rear bumper of the leading Hot Bodies Cyclone TC. Attempting a number of times to find his way passed the No.1 car the Germans touched coming on to the front straight at the start of lap 5 with Volker’s car going into a slide. Rheinard waited but Viktor Wilck who was running third was unable to avoid the recovering Volker putting an end to the pole man’s race and Wilck’s challenge victory.

Practice sets stage for exciting Finals

Practice Final action

The practice finals have just been completed and if the battle in the A Final practice group is anything to go by we are in for a thrilling afternoon of European Championship Finals. Top Qualifier Ronald Volker lead intially but came under intense pressure from the Tamiya pairing of Marc Rheinard and Viktor Wilck. Getting past his team-mate, Wilck was the first to challenge Volker but was unable to find a way passed. Now it was Rheinard’s turn to have a go at the defending champion the pair touching at the end of the back straight. Finally Rheinard found a way through and despite very close attention from Volker over the final few laps Rheinard took an important physcological victory with Wilck third.

Defending Champion takes Euros pole

Ronald Volker

Reigning European Electric Touring Car Champion Ronald Volker has successfully completed the first stage of his title defence by securing the TQ, putting his LRP powered Hot Bodies at the front of the grid for tomorrow’s triple A Main Finals. Volker has been on form throughout qualifying securing victory in four of the five heats with the only blotch in his text book performance being a stripped front belt at the start of Heat number 2. Volker, who was confirmed as the Top Qualifier after Heat 4 when Viktor Wilck got in trouble for late marshalling, produced the fastest time for the final qualifier ahead of a very improved Teemu Leino.
