Coelho from Volker in controlled practice at ETS opener

A new season of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series got underway in Vienna, Austria, today with practice ending with a familiar theme to last season as Bruno Coelho topped the times.  Having topped free practice, the Xray driver would lay down the fastest 3-consecutive laps in the first of the controlled practice runs with no one able to better the pace in the second and final practice.  It would be Ronald Volker who would top CP2, but like Coelho he couldn’t beat his earlier time.  Behind, Alexander Hagberg would complete the Top 3, the Xray driver improving his time in CP2 by more than 4/10ths of a second.  Also improving in CP2, Naoki Akiyama is seeded P4 for qualifying ahead of Infinity pairing Akio Sobue and Marc Rheinard.

Patrik Pozgaj crowned Croatian Touring Stock Champion

Last weekend saw the final round of the Croatian Touring Stock Championship. The weekend started off with nice weather on Saturday and Patrik Pozgaj was able to take the two opening qualifiers to gain the overnight TQ from Zeljko Selman and Borna Pliskovac. A final round of qualifiers would be held on Sunday but lower temperatures and clouds meant Saturday’s setups were made redundant. However it was still Patrik Pozgaj on top of the timing sheets and he would continue to perform in the triple A-mains were he set a new Stock class track record with a 20.094, beating Selman and Pliskovac in the progress and also taking the 2017 Croatian Touring Stock title.

Tanner Stees wins at Arizona State Championships

The Arizona State Championships were held recently at Hobby Action raceway. The layout for the track was welcomed by many and a huge triple and a quad section was something different for an indoor track and a nice change of pace for indoors. The single 8-minute 4WD main on Sunday saw Xray’s Tanner Stees walking away with the win. Coming from the 2 spot on the grid, Tanner would gain the lead after a couple of laps and he was able to break away from the 2nd placed driver until Tanner had a problem with lap traffic and had to be marshalled were he fell back down to 2nd. The battle continued on once again until the leader made a mistake and Stees was able to take the lead and get a gap going until the end of the race, where he finished 1st from Team Associated’s Ashe Deering 2nd and Tekno’s Billy Fischer 3rd.

After celebrating the completion of 10 seasons of world class racing back in July, the Yokomo Euro Touring Series is set to enter into a second decade of high profile competition as Vienna hosts the opening round of Season #11 this weekend (27-29 October). Taking place as part of the ‘Modellbau 2017’ model show in the Austrian Capital, the 58th race of the ETS also marks the 8th consecutive season of Yokomo being the title sponsor of the Uwe Rheinard and Scotty Ernst created championship with the Japanese manufacturer one of a number of teams looking to take on the domination of a certain Bruno Coelho. As back to back champion, Coelho enters into only his fourth season of the ETS as the pre-season favourite. Also champion of the Euro Offroad Series and the Euro Nitro Series, last season the Xray driver claimed a record 5 wins from 6 races and getting fed up of being in the shadow of the Portuguese driver his rivals are more determined than ever to change this over the coming season.

Belgian SCT Cup Rd6 – Report

Round 6 of the Belgian SCT Cup was held at the Off-road Racing RC Torhout club. The event marked the serie’s first visit at the venue whose 250 metres long astro turf track offers both technical and flatout sections, with some tricky jumps in between that require very precise driving. Due to rainy weather in the built up to the event, the track was still wet in the morning and it took until the afternoon to dry up, making tyre choice critical. In Pro2 qualifying, Géry Ledocq (Kyosho) took the TQ by winning all three rounds while Nicolas Evens (TLR) obtained the second spot of the grid despite some mechanical issues in the final run. Tom Vercarre (TLR) and Guillaume Laffut (TeamC) fought for P3 all morning long and eventually it was Tom who rounded out the top 3 results.

Spanish National Series finale – Report

Madrid played host to the final round of the Spanish National Series. Going into the finale Javier Alonso, Marc Moix, Javi Ferrando and Carlos Ferrando all had their chance to get the title and it was Javier who set the early pace by TQing three of the qualifying rounds while Carlos locked the P2 spot on the grid after coming out fastest in the final two qualifiers. In the first main, Javier Alonso had a big crash at the beginning which let Carlos Ferrando pick up the lead and cruise to the finish line. In A2, Javier Alonso was on new tyres which gave him enough advantage to take the main easily so in the last leg, the title was at stake between Alonso and Ferrando. Both soon separated from the field and fought for the championship, which finally ended up in Carlos’ hands. The podium was completed by Javi Ferrando making a 1-2-3 for Xray.
