The 2017 Hobbywing Cup was held at the SYE Arena in Shanghai. After cancellations in 2015 and 2016 this year’s event would take place in changeable and unpredictable weather but ultimately four qualifiers and all triple mains could be held. In the premier Touring Modified class, Wang Haifeng took the overall victory from Lu Junqiao 2nd and TQ holder Huang Kuisheng who rounded out the podium result.

Last weekend The Wicked Weekend was held in Gainsville, Georgia. This year, the organisers came up with a new practice schedule highlighted by splitting the practice into two groups that made the overall racing experience more enjoyable for all competitors in attendance. Dave Leikam took a gamble and delivered a better, more efficient race program that allowed drivers more practice time with an A and B group. With over 600 entries, this split program was crucial in making practice more beneficial for everyone.

During last weekend’s German 4WD Off-road Nationals not only 4WD Modified and Stock classes were run but also a 2WD Stadium Truck category. Jörn Neumann, who ran a Team Durango truck, would take the overall win, following 1st place finishes in A1 and A2, from the Xray duo of Jens Becker and Kim Sitensky. Kai Dittes (Xray) and Stefan Mößner (Team Associated) rounded out the podium result.
This past weekend the third round of the Swedish National Cup was held at in Västerås at the Västerås Motorsällskap club. The astro turf track offered high traction that, in combination with the bumpy surface, made for challenging conditions for the drivers. The 2WD portion of the event was held on Saturday but massive rain falls meant the start had to be postponed. As the track dried up slowly the opening qualifiers were held on a wet track. Elias Johansson made the best out of the conditions and he took the overall TQ following wins in the opening three qualifiers. Alexander Landen came in 2nd with a strong performance from Wilhelm Skjöldebrand in 3rd.

The fourth round of the Nitro & Electric Offroad Series was held at the Zidlochovice track in the Czech Republic. The event started off wet and in the 1/8th E-Buggy class it was Vaclav Broz who dominated the qualifiers, taking wins in all three rounds. Sadly for the drivers and organisers more rain would flood the track and so the race director called it a day and by using the qualifying results to determine the winner it was Vaclav Broz with the E-Buggy victory.

Xray have announced the addition of Singapore’s Dominic Quek to their factory team. A former Xray privateer, Dominic will now receive full works support in his campaign that will see attendances at events such as the Asian Onroad Championships, the TITC as well as national events such as the Urban Touring Series, the Singapore Nationals and the TIPS Championship. Dominic will campaign Xray’s T4 and X1 platforms and he had the following to say:
I have been racing radio control cars since the age of 5. One of my first pro-level cars was the Xray T2 which my dad chose for me for its durability. Over the years, I have continued to choose to race the Xray platform for its on-track performance and unrivalled quality. In recent years, I have had the opportunity to interact with and receive advice from Xray’s factory team drivers including Alexander Hagberg, Jan Ratheisky, Bruno Coelho and Martin Hudy. The 4WD portion of the German 1/10th Electric Off-road Nationals was held this past weekend at the RC-Cars Köngen club in the south of the country. In the 4WD Modified class it was local hero, Luca Rau (Xray) who took the overall TQ from SWorkz’ Micha Widmaier in 2nd and Jörn Neumann 3rd. The finals then saw Luca checking out in A1 and A2 for an early title win while runner-up after the qualifiers, Micha Widmaier scored a DNF in A1 only to come back in A2 with a 2nd place and the win in A3 to take the vice-championship from Tom Maquel (Team C) in 3rd. With the 2nd place in the Modified class, Micha Widmaier secured himself the German Youth title while Elias Ehrmann/Schiller (Xray) snatched the German Junior title with a 23rd place overall.
The Stafford club in the heart of the UK hosted the penultimate round of the BRCA 2017 Clubmans series last weekend, once again a near fully entry contested the three classes. In the 13.5 Touring class it was close battle between Liam Brooks, Andy Murray and Markus Askell and this was the qualifying order after four rounds of qualifying. In the two-leg finals it finished one leg each to Liam and Markus with Liam taking the overall win over Markus on a faster time. The result sets up great final round with Markus moving in to contention but he will have to fight off a hard charging Adrian Bidewell who, by his standard, had an off day at Stafford.
