2013 Keilor Cup Rd3 – Report

The 3rd round of the popular Victorian Drivers Series was held at the Keilor Club in Melbourne on the 11th August. The Keilor track crew worked hard to get the track ready after a week of heavy rain and come race day, the track was perfect with a groove forming. Over 150 entries were received for this 1 day event making for a long day with full fields in all classes. The modified fields in particular were stacked with 30 entries in both 2WD and 4WD open. With no less than six previous national champions in the field, just making an A-main was going to be tough. JConcepts were well represented headed by Factory driver Ray Munday (JC/AE/Novak/Reedy), Glen Bonetti (JC/AE) Ash Peeler (JC/Kyosho), Glen Bonetti (JC/AE), Leigh Cheeseman (JC/Schumacher), John Watkins (JC/Xray) and Scott Giles (JC/Schumacher) ready to take it to the rest of the field. This included multi-time national champ Matt Griffin (Yokomo), Ben Sterling (Kyosho), touring car ace Ryan Maker (Kyosho), Welsh star Jody Denner (Yokomo), Mark ‘Paris’ Rodgers (AE), Tasmanian Sam Wells and Scott ‘The Hot One’ Rawlings (Yokomo).

Kim Sitensky doubles at German truck nationals

The German electric truck nationals took place at the astro turf track of the RCSF Singen last weekend. Run in 1/10th 2WD racing truck and 2WD short course truck the drivers were faced with a fast and flowing layout ideal for mid-motor vehicles. Kim Sitensky (Kyosho) was the man to beat after dominating the practice and qualification he found himself on pole position in both the racing truck and SC class. Local hero Swen Lauber took the second spot with Florian Eberhard owing the third spot in the truck class after qualifying. In SC Christian Geier placed his Associated truck in second place with Florian Eberhard in tow. Come the A final of the racing truck class Kim made for an early decision by winning the first two A finals in style handing him the 2013 racing truck title early. The runner-up spot went to Swen Lauber, Dirk Endres completed the podium.

Bayer & Mara win at Czech buggy nationals

The first round of the 2013 Czech 1/10th electric off-road nationals took place at the MK Svitavy club on an 100 percent astro turf track. In the 2WD class Jiri took Xray’s XB2 prototype to TQ honours and went on to win the first round of the nationals by winning two out of three A finals. Radek Flek took the second spot and Martin Bayer completed the podium. In the 4WD class Xray’s Martin Bayer took the pole position and cruised to the overall win by taking the first two A mains. His team mate Jiri Mara came in second while Team Durango’s Kaja Novotny completed the podium.

Scottie Brewer wins at King of the Hill

The 2013 King of the Hill race in White Rock, NM saw FTW’s Scottie Brewer TQ’ing both Nitro Buggy and Truggy and he also qualified 2nd in both 4×4 SCT and E-Buggy. Come the finals he went on to win the Nitro Buggy class in front of Scott Harrell and Carter Altman. In 4×4 SCT Tony Hinojosa won the race followed by Scottie Brewer and Jason Kennedy while in the Truggy class Scottie had a bit of bad luck as he suffered a flame out following a crash when leading most of the race. He still managed to come in third place behind winner Jose Carillo and second placed Mike Cisneros.

BRCA Truggy and E8 nationals Rd5 – Report

Deerdale situated in the heart of the country near Mansfield played host for round 5 of the BRCA Truggy and E8 Buggy championship. The track is reckoned by some to be the best 1/8th scale astro-turf track in the country. It is big, but can catch one out with its technical sections. Normal format resumed with the drivers brief and qualifying starting at 9 o’clock. E8 buggies were first, followed by the truggies. Although the attendance was low the weather turned up for the enjoyable days racing. Some of the top buggy drivers and truggy drivers found out first hand in there first run how the track can bite back at you if you don’t respect it.

2013-2014 Essex Winter Series - Announcement

Oli Meggitt and the Essex Winter Series (EWS) Organising Team are proud to announce that the series will be returning for its third season later this year.  The EWS is one of the largest and most popular Touring Car championships in the UK and last year was fully booked for every round of the series. Building on that success, the organisers have opted to change little of their proven format.  The Championship is well known for its relaxed, yet competitive atmosphere and will again consist of 6 one-day meetings, held between October 2013 and March 2014.  The racing will take place at Deanes Sports Centre in South-East Essex, on one of the largest carpet tracks in the world, a massive 35×22 metres.  The fully heating pitting area is well lit and mains power is available for all competitors.

Xray Challenge Hungary – Announcement

The Xray Challenge Hungary will take place at the famous Hungaroring full-scale racing track on the weekend of the 8th of September. The race is run in several classes including electric touring car 13.5T boost and non-boost, touring car modified, 200mm stock and EFRA nitro touring car, 1/8th and 1/5th EFRA on-road. Tyres are free for all classes and the 200mm stock nitro class is being run with a controlled low-budget engine. You can find more information here and register for the event here.

Adrian Berntsen wins at '13 Norwegian Outdoor Series

The fourth and final round of the Norwegian national outdoor series was held at the Sorlihavna race track in Lorenskog, just outside of Oslo. The race saw a record entry of drivers with 27 drivers attending in the 1/10 touring modified class which is more than at any other race this season. The Sorlihavna racetrack is a pretty small and technical track which suits the modified-class perfectly but as Q1 started, many drivers struggled to finish their 5 minute heats without troubles. The only driver to finish his race without issues was Xray driver Oskar Fjeld who actually had his fastest overall qualifier in Q1. Adrian Berntsen held the runner-up spot despite a body tuck during the run.
