Joe Kerry takes Rd4 of British 200mm Nationals

Joe Kerry takes Rd4 of British 200mm Nationals

Round 4 of the British 200mm Nationals was held at the Wombell track. The weather was decent with temperatures above 20°C, but the windy conditions and very bumpy surface made it difficult to get a good set up. The grip level was very low to start with but did improve a little later on. The competition was very tough and at the end of Saturdays practice the top drivers were all separated by just 1/10th of a second. On Sunday the temperatures were cooler and there was much less wind. In round 1 of qualifying it was Mark Green who set the pace from Alex Thurston and John Zottl. Round 2 saw Thurston finish just ahead of Green with Zottl again taking 3rd but all three drivers were slower than before. The third qualifier saw Thurston finish in front of Green again while Joe Kerry took 3rd overall after missing the opening two qualifiers with some radio problems. Into the last round of qualifying and Joe Kerry was matching TQ pace until a small mistake ended his chances. With Mark and Alex also not finishing their runs, it made way for John Zottl to come through and take 3rd overall for the final.

Paolo Bottignol takes Vedano Club Championship Rd4

Paolo Bottignol takes Vedano Club Championship Rd4

Round four of the popular Vedano Club Championship was held in Vedano, Monza. High ambient temperatures of up to 33 degree Celsius and more than 65 degree track temperature gave the drivers a hard time as the GRP tyres used tend to make for heavy understeering in these conditions. At the end of the unusual race format, that saw two qualifying rounds and four final legs with the times combined, Paolo Bottignol came out fastest to take the day’s win.

Mark Gilliland wins at Ulster GP

Mark Gilliland wins at Ulster GP

The inaugural Ulster GP was held at the UMCC track in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland. Drivers travelled from all over Ireland and further afield to compete. Ballymoney is a compact technical track and the UMCC had done a superb job of preparing the venue including sugar watering the asphalt for the first time. Saturday practice was held in superb conditions and with track temperatures soaring the track was surprisingly fast. Sunday the track conditions were less than optimum and in the first A-main Andrew Smith (Xray) brought home a leg win. The second final saw a start to finish win for Mark Gilliland (Xray) and going into the third and final A-main three drivers, Mark Gilliland, Andrew Smith and Alan Bickerstaff (Team Associated) all had a chance of winning. The track had almost fully dried and grip was up to standard. The pace was hot at the front and despite close attention Mark came out the winner with a very quick 25 lapper off a standing start. Andrew Smith finished in 2nd while Alan Bickerstaff rounded out the top 3 result.

sat_volkerchamp-620x372

Ronald Volker has claimed his fifth consecutive Euro Touring Series championship title, the Yokomo driver declaring that Season #8 of the world famous championship was ‘definitely the hardest season’ yet.   Coming into the event with only long standing arch rival Marc Rheinard able to deny him the title, Volker said this season the level of world class drivers at each of the six rounds was higher than ever and this was the title he was most proud of.  With the sixth & final round at the Hudy Racing Arena in Slovakia netting Team Xray its first ever 1-2 finish Bruno Coelho taking the win from Alexander Hagberg, Volker said while this weekend was not a good race for him he still got what he came for and he was delighted to win ‘a hard fought fifth title’.
