Mizan wins Kuala Lumpur Merdeka Cup

Mizan wins Kuala Lumpur Merdeka Cup

Last weekend the Kuala Lumpur Merdeka Cup took place at the excellent facility in the capital city of Malaysia. With 70 drivers in attendance it was one of the biggest GP races in the region. As the weather forecast was not very promising the duration of the 1/10th 200mm final was shortened to 30 minutes. Shepherd driver Neil piloted his Velox V10 Pro to the third place less then 2 seconds behind Anthony Wee with Kimie crossing the finishing line in first position. In the 1/8th scale class it was Shepherd’s Mizan who took the pole position and the overall victory. Unfortunately heavy rain hit the track right before the start of the 1/8 final and the organisers decided to use the qualifying result to declare the winner. The podium was completed by Kimie and Ah Tan.

Karstens wins Mod Truck at Hobby Haven Shootout

Karstens wins Mod Truck at Hobby Haven Shootout

The annual Hobby Haven Offroad Shootout has been around for over a decade and has become one of the largest off-road races in the Midwest. This year the organisers capped the entries at 250 and the race filled up on rcsignup.com 4 weeks before the event date. After qualifying a huge thunderstorm rolled through the area Saturday night and when the drivers showed up at the track Sunday morning many were very sceptical that their cars would even touch the track. After some serious work from a few of the locals, the track was starting to come around. With the delay from the wet track all the racers took a vote and decided to skip the triple A-mains and go with single mains to speed up the day. JConcepts Chad Karstens (Team Associated) was in third place the first couple of laps in the Modified Truck A main with Fellow JConcepts drivers Cole Tollard and Rod Rippee (both Team Associated) were first and second but Cole got a little sideways going into a rhythm section. Chad was able to squeeze the throttle and move to the outside passing both Cole and Rod at the same time. He then built a 2 to 3 second lead and was able to hold that gap for the rest of the race taking the win. Cole finished second and Rod came in third.
