4-way tie at conclusion of 4WD at Reedy Race

This year’s Reedy Race of Champions is living up to the legendary race celebrating its 25th running with 4WD concluding at OCRC Raceway in a four way tie. After the six rounds of racing and the single throwout taken into account, Ty Tessmann, Spencer Rivkin, Dustin Evans and Jared Tebo have all ended up on 11 points with Michal Orlowski and Day 1 points leader Joe Bornhorst 1-point behind as the event now switches to 2WD. The final round of 4WD, this year’s track layout producing one of the closest Reedy battles at the World famous Huntington Beach track, produced all repeat winners. Opening the round, Rivkin added his second win ahead of defending champion and Associated team-mate Evans. Next up Orlowski backed up his first ever win at the Reedy Race with a second ahead of Tebo who came through from the back. The big encounter of the round, Race 3 pitted Ryan Cavalieri, Ryan Maifield and Tessmann up against one another at the front of the grid. Maifield would lead the way for 5-laps until he had trouble at the front jump which balked Yokomo team-mate Cavalieri but the multiple champion managed to get going ahead of Tessmann as Maifield dropped to third and that is how they would finish.

Orlowski wins loaded heat to move into contention at RROC

The results of the penultimate round of 4WD action at the Reedy Race of Champions has mixed things up on the leader board with Schumacher’s Michal Orlowski claiming victory in a loaded race to move into contention as 2nd place through 5th all sit on 15 points, two off new points leader Jared Tebo. Lining up on the front row alongside CJ Jelin for the last race of the 5th round, Orlowski came out on top with a late pass on his fellow teenager but it was the result of the drivers behind that really mixed things up. With the back row made up Ryan Maifield and Ryan Cavalieri, Tebo starting 7th and David Ronnefalk 6th, the stage was set for the first big showdown of this year’s event. Racing for third, Maifield and Ronnefalk would go at it with the Swede holding strong to any challenge from the American. With just over a minute to go it looked like Maifield had found a way passed after Ronnefalk went slightly too hard into the raised corner and went wide but the HB Racing driver came back full punch leading to the contact that saw Maifield come off worse. While Ronnefalk got third, Maifield dropped to 6th behind Cavalieri and 4th placed Tebo with the two exchanging words over the incident. Ty Tessmann opened his day in the best way possible with a win in Race 1 over Lee Martin, Dakotah Phend and defending Champion Dustin Evans. For overnight leader Joe Bornhorst it was a contrasting start to Day 2 as he ended up 9th, his race going downhill after an early mistake while running third. The win would go to JP Richards who saw off Spencer Rivkin.

Bornhorst leads Tekno 1-2 at Reedy Race

Joe Bornhorst is the surprise points leader at the end of the opening day of the Reedy Race of Champions at OCRC Raceway in California. After four of the 12 rounds of racing, the Tekno driver holds a 1-point lead over new team-mate Jared Tebo thanks to a very consistent day in which he finished all four races in the Top 3 including a win in the second round. Also having a consistent day of 4WD action, Tebo ended his day with his first win of this the 25th running of the race, taking the opening race of the final round ahead of David Ronnefalk. The other winners of the round were Ryan Maifield, who took his second win of the day ahead of defending champion Dustin Evans, with Cole Tollard concluding the day’s Invitational class racing with a win over points leader Bornhorst. The same race would see Ryan Cavalieri finish 5th, the Yokomo driver holding 3rd in the overnight standings with 2 rounds of 4WD to go before the switch to 2WD.

Evans gets first win of Reedy title defence

Reedy Race Champion Dustin Evans has claimed the first win of his title defence, the Team Associated driver convincingly winning his 3rd round encounter ahead of Joe Bornhorst and Brent Thielke. Opening the event with a P2 but suffering an 8th in Round 2, Evans made the most of his first pole position start, quickly pulling clear of the field. Behind, Bornhorst once again turned around a back of the grid starting position to get up to second by the finish and with a win and 2 second places the Tekno drivers leads the points table from Ryan Cavalieri. Multiple champion Cavalieri became the first double winner of the event winning the second race of the round ahead of 2017 Champion Dakotah Phend. The same race saw joint leader after two rounds Ty Tessmann end up 5th, the Xray driver getting together with Schumacher’s Michal Orlowski entering the straight for the last time with the latter winning the drag race to the finish line. Race 3 would see the first non-American winner of this year’s race with David Ronnefalk converting a front row start alongside pole sitter Kaito Kodera into a win. Behind, fellow European Lee Martin took 2nd ahead of Jared Tebo, the Tekno driver now on the same points as third placed Tessmann with one more round of racing on the opening day’s schedule.

Maifield most significant winner in second RROC encounter

Ryan Maifield claimed the most significant win of the second round of racing at the Reedy Race of Champions, the other wins going to fellow pole starter Joe Bornhorst and young ace CJ Jelin. Starting from the opposite end of the grid to the opening round, the former Champion backed up his 2nd place from 10th on the grid with his first win to share the early points lead with Ty Tessmann. Running in the 2nd race of the round, Tessmann came from the back to survive a chaotic race finishing 2nd behind former team-mate Jelin. Bornhorst claimed an easy win in the round’s opening race ahead of Cole Tollard and Tanner Stees, the same race netting Round 1 winner Spencer Rivkin a fifth. After claiming the first win of the 25th running of the event, Ryan Cavalieri made little progress from his P8 starting position to finish 5th in the race won by Maifield.

25th Reedy Race opens with wins for Cavalieri, Rivkin & Tessmann

The 25th running of the famous Reedy Race of Champion is underway with the first of the 12 rounds of heads up racing producing wins for Ryan Cavalieri, Spencer Rivkin and yesterday’s practice pace setter Ty Tessmann. Getting the race action underway at OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach, California, Cavalieri took advantage of a No.3 starting position to get by the all French front row of Broda Clements and Renaud Savoya. It would soon become a Yokomo 1-2-3 at the front with Ryan Maifield coming through from 10th on the grid to second. It looked for a time like the race was going to have a showdown with the ‘Ryan & Ryan Show’ but a mistake from Maifield was enough to leave Cavalieri comfortable to the finish with Lee Martin completing the Top 3. Next up Rivkin took full advantage of pole position with a tone to tone victory ahead of Dustin Evans, the defending champion having a mistake at the front jump section that denied him challenging his Associated team-mate for the win. The final encounter saw another predictable result as Tessmann capitalised on a front row start to win by a 3.7-seconds from Jared Tebo who saw off a last lap David Ronnefalk challenge that allowed Broc Champlin to slip through for 3rd.

Hicks & Georges win at Ice Breaker Points Series Rd2

SCRC recently held round 2 of the Ice Breaker Points Series and in 1/8th Nitro Buggy it was Chuck Hicks with the win. Behind him, Tag Georges would get a terrible start, falling all the way back to 8th. From there, he would put his head down and click of some fast, consistent laps. After the first round of pit stops, Tag would find himself in a battle for 4th. This was a very tight race with some fast guys. After pulling away from them a bit and the 2nd pit stop, Georges found myself battling for 2nd place with Casey Peck and Wyatt Bieter. Tag would capitalise on them racing each other and he would finish behind Chuck Hicks by 12 seconds as Casey Peck completed the top 3.

Joaquin Desoto Jr. wins at PanAm Grand Prix

The Homestead RC Raceway in Florida held the 2019 Pan American Grand Prix last weekend and in the premier 1/8th open class it was Joaquin Desoto Jr. (Serpent) with the overall TQ and the win in the 45-minutes A-main final. Joaquin left behind Capricorn’s Paolo Morgantin in 2nd, a lap down, as Serpent’s Brad Mergy rounded out the top 3 podium result.
