Lee Martin wins European ‘B’ title

Lee Martin wins European ‘B’ title

The European ‘B’ Championships for 1/8th scale buggy were run last weekend at the USBRC’s track in Bergerac, France. Qualifying saw a close battle between Associated driver Lee Martin and Losi racer Darren Bloomfield, both from the UK, as well as Czech driver Martin Bayer. In the end it was Lee that took an easy pole position ahead of Bayer, who managed to claim the spot from Bloomfield in the last round of qualifying, demoting Darren to the 3rd spot. Following the semi’s, the final saw Lee and Darren immediately shot off into the lead of the 45 minute race. Darren worked his way passed Lee in the early stages, but problems following the first refuelling dropped him down the order and gave Lee some breathing space at the front. Darren would eventually work his way back to the front, managing to come from 10th to take 2nd in the last 5 minutes of the race. Lee Martin took the win, and the European title, ahead of Bloomfield in 2nd, 2 laps back, with French racer Romain Soret in 3rd, 1 lap further back.

Mike Truhe wins ROAR 1/8th Buggy Nats

Mike Truhe wins ROAR 1/8th Buggy Nats

We received this report from Losi, whose 8ight buggy just won the ROAR 1/8 Nitro Off-Road National Championship for the second year in a row. There is no doubt this 2008 ROAR Nationals will go down in history as one of the nicest and best run events in the last 10 years. Virtually every top factory driver, as well as the best privateers, from around the country raced throughout the week at the beautifully prepared Thunder Alley off-road track in Beaumont, California. The gruelling hour-long A Main event is the ultimate test of both driver and machine. While it was Jared Tebo that took the pole position, it was Losi racer Mike Truhe that took the lead early and went on to complete 126 flawless laps, with times consistently faster than his competitors, to take the win. Overlooked for much of the race was Losi 8ight driver Billy Fischer who bumped up three times through the semi-finals to earn one of the last starting spots in the Nationals A final. With a car that had been raced hard for over an hour Fischer put in a sensational drive from the back of the pack, passing 10 of the best drivers in America, to take the 2nd spot. Jared Tebo rounded out the podium in 3rd spot, ahead of Scott Hughes in 4th, while Losi driver Adam Drake, the reigning 2007 National Champion, completed the race in 5th.

Mark Green wins BRCA 200mm Rd4

The 4th round of the 1/10th 200mm Nationals were run last weekend at the Snetterton track, and it was a GP event meaning it was run to EFRA rules and so there were bump-ups as well as a 45 minute final. As it rained all day Saturday, nobody got any practice, and so on Sunday everyone got 10 minutes free practice to find a setup. Qualifying ended with Serpent racers Mark Green and round 3 winner Kyle Branson in 1st and 2nd, with Chris Slater in 3rd and Johnathan Dobney in 4th. The final saw a good start for the front 2 drivers and within a short time they had opened a gap back to 3rd spot. Mark led for the first 8 laps until Kyle took over the lead, a position he held until the 30 minute mark when he unfortunately stripped a gear. This allowed Mark to regain the lead and Robin Hammet to move up to 2nd, while Kyle dropped back to 5th following the fitting of a replacement gear. In the end Mark Green won by a lap from Xray driver Robin Hammet, with Branson recovering to 3rd, and setting the fastest lap of the race, to take the final step on the podium.
