Kurzbuch fastest in Q3 & 4

Kurzbuch fastest in Q3 & 4

Simon Kurzbuch is knocking on the door of his first overall TQ of the Euro Nitro Series as he posted two more fastest runs in Q3 & 4 at the Hockenheimring.  The championship points leader can now only be denied pole position for tomorrow’s 45-minute Main by Mugen’s Robert Pietsch should the former World Champion top the remaining two qualifiers. With three of the six rounds to count, if Pietsch does take Q5 & 6 it will be thanks to his faster Q2 pace that he will be Top Qualifier for the second time in the championship having taken the honour at the season opener in Melzo.

Leino TQ’s opening Hockenheim qualifier

Leino TQ's opening Hockenheim qualifier

Teemu Leino TQ’d the opening 200mm qualifier of the Euro Nitro Series at the Hockenheimring, the HB driver narrowly outpacing Dominic Greiner who was left rueing a mistake that would cost the Serpent driver over 1-second.  Leino, who was unavailable for comment having made a speedy return to his hotel after the qualifier, would have a slight incident of his own in the race. On the second lap, the Finn would have a coming together with Ronald Volker, the Mugen driver coming off worst but eventually recovering to take third for the round.  For last year’s ENS Pilot race and Round 1 winner Eric Dankel, Q1 would see a DNF for the Capricorn driver due to a broken manifold spring.

Raiola & Campourcy win at Trophee Novarossi

Raiola & Campourcy win at Trophee Novarossi

The first Novarossi Trophy of the year took place at the Roubie Race Track in Monaco. Especially the 1/8th on-road class was not short of famous European drivers such as reigning Italian champion, Carmine Raiola, reigning Swiss champion, Simon Kurzbuch, Francesco Tironi or Toni Gruber to name just a view. The race format saw 4 qualifying heats and two 20 minutes finals of which the best result counted towards the overall result. At the end it was Carmine Raiola (Xray/Novarossi) who took the overall win with the only 84 laps run while Simon Kurzbuch (Shepherd/Novarossi) had to settle for second despite winning the 2nd A-main but as he was 2 laps short on Carmine’s run in leg 1 he had to settle for the runner-up spot. The podium was completed by Simon’s fellow countryman Silvio Hächler (KM/Novarossi). Francesco Tironi (Shepherd/Novarossi) came in 4th while Toni Gruber (Serpent/Novarossi) completed the top 5 result. In the 1/10th 200mm class it was Stephane Campourcy (Xray/RB) who took the win from Eric Gnemis (Kyosho/O.S.) and Daniel Grosso.
