Martin Achter is Double World Champion

Martin Achter is Double World Champion

Following the 2wd World Championship that took place earlier in the week in South Africa, the 4wd Championship got underway later in the week and again had a poor turnout, only attracting 20 drivers. Winner of the 2wd title, Martin Achter, driving the Durango DEX410, took the TQ spot with 3 wins in qualifying to line up easily ahead of Gerrit Houws and Brandon Joynt. In the first A-main, Martin simply checked out, while carnage behind helped him extend his lead to take a comfortable win in front of another Durango racer Jaco van Eerden in 2nd and Brandon Joynt 3rd with a Kyosho. Leg 2 saw more of the same from Martin and he took the win to secure his 2nd World title in a week, while Brandon Joynt took 2nd ahead of Hot Bodies racer Craig Loughton in 3rd. With the title already won Achter decided to sit out the 3rd leg and this allowed Gerrit Gouws to take the win despite big pressure from Craig Loughton who took 2nd, while Guilherme De Sousa, driving an Associated took 3rd. The overall positions saw Martin Achter crowned World Champion with Gerrit Gouws in 2nd and Craig Laughton in 3rd overall.

Czech Grand Prix – Announcement

Czech Grand Prix - Announcement

The organisers of the Czech GP, Lestr Models together with Mibosport, have been in touch to let us know about the International electric touring car event that takes place from the 6th to the 8th of November. With the event run as the Grand Prix Prague in recent years, a name change and change of venue to Moravian city Hrotovice sees a fresh new beginning for this race. In view of the fact that the third round of the Euro Touring Series will take place at the same venue in late January they have adjusted the rules in a such way that this event could also become a warm-up for the ETS race and consequently they are going to use Xenon Max 32 tyres for all classes and Speed Passion Competition 3.0 13,5T motors for the Pro Stock class.

Martin Achter crowned 2wd World Champion

Martin Achter crowned 2wd World Champion

Having qualified on pole position, securing the position with another leg win in qualifying today, Martin Achter of Germany is the new 2wd World Champion. In an event only attended by 17 drivers it was actually Craig Laughton that won the first leg of the final but Achter, driving an Associated B4, responded by going out and winning both second and third legs with very cool driving. Craig ended up as runner up with Albert Claassons taking 3rd, with the top 3 unchanged from how they qualified. The 4wd class gets underway tomorrow with practice, where Martin will begin as favourite once more, driving the new Durango DEX410.

Mobers does double at European Pan Series Rd1

Mobers does double at European Pan Series Rd1

The opening round of the European Pan Series for 1/12th scale took place last weekend in Germany and saw just over 40 drivers competing in both the Pro Stock and Modified classes, with the former being the most popular. Serpent driver Markus Mobers, one of the series organisers, took the top qualifying spot in both classes and would go on to win both classes with European Stock class Champion Marc Fisher taking the runner up spot both times. In the Pro Stock class it was Vesa Yli that took the 3rd spot, while in the modified class it was Daniel Sieber that was 3rd. Interestingly Mobers was testing a new prototype S120 link car in the Modified class, while retaining the T-bar for Pro Stock.

Barend Myburgh is 1/5th scale World Champion

Barend Myburgh is 1/5th scale World Champion

Eighteen year old Barend Myburgh has won the 1/5th scale World Championships, held in South Africa, as a result of an impressive meeting long performance, winning all his qualifying heats and thus taking pole position for the one hour final. Jumping straight into the lead and being never headed, Myburg won by almost 14 laps from Rodney Michael with Simon Bradley a further four laps away in third position. Whilst Myburg dictated the terms of the race throughout, Michael drove determinedly from fifth on the grid to earn second the hard way – battling Bradley and Andries Oosthuizen (fourth) for a podium spot for much of the race. Despite at one stage having to pit to replace a failed battery, Michael’s consistency and reliability eventually was rewarded as both Bradley and Oosthuizen suffered mechanical problems in the second half of the race. Willem Hendrick Barnard was fifth, followed in by Willem Vorster and 15 year old Jean Pierre Oosthuizen. Disappointingly this major international race attracted only 7 drivers, all South African.
