2008 Reedy Race of Champions

The 2008 Reedy Race of Champions was held at the weekend at the Speedworld Raceway in Roseville, California, the first time the race has been held at this venue following the closing of the previous facility. As usual there were 3 classes at this years event, the blue ribboned Invitational class that uses the now famous Reedy Race system consisting of races for points, and the 13.5 Turn class and Open class, both of which consisted of the usual qualifying rounds and triple A-mains. Qualifying for the 13.5T class saw TOP racer Kyle Bergstrom take the pole position from Losi driver Larry Fairtrace in 2nd and Jason Ertracter in 3rd, while in the Open class it was again a TOP on top, with Kevin Jelich taking top spot in front of Associated driver Christer Andersson in 2nd and Randy Caster 3rd. The 13.5 Turn finals saw Losi driver Larry Fairtrace take the overall win from pole man Bergstrom who ended up in 2nd, with EJ Evans putting another TOP on the podium in 3rd. In the Open finals Kevin Jelich managed to maintain his top spot from qualifying and take the overall ahead of Christer Andersson in 2nd and Jimmy Jacobson rounding off the podium for Tamiya in 3rd. In the Invitational class it was a close battle between a number of drivers but in the end Hot Bodies racer Atsushi Hara had the most victories to just beat out Masami Hirosaka by 1 point to take the overall crown. Hirosaka, who was racing the new prototype Yokomo was himself only just ahead of last years winner Marc Rheinard who took the final step of the podium for Tamiya in 3rd spot.

Richard Volta is European B Champion

Richard Volta is European B Champion

Last weekend saw the European ‘B’ Championship for 1/8th scale on-road held in Kirchberg, Austria. The race saw 125 drivers in attendance and after 4 thrilling qualifying rounds it was Shepherd Velox driver Richard Volta that claimed the pole position ahead of Novarossi employee Michele Baruzzi driving a Serpent in 2nd. The 3rd spot went to Mugen racer Marco Müller from Switzerland, while the final direct qualifying position was taken by another Serpent racer, Agostinelli Giordano. The 45 minute final was won by Richard Volta who never lost the lead and in the end finished nearly one lap in front of young Italian Serpent racer Alberto Tedeschi in 2nd. Michele Baruzzi rounded out the podium in 3rd, finishing only 0.2 sec in front of Serpent team mate Domenico Calce who finished 4th. This was the first European Championship title for the young Shepherd Team and comes only 3 month after the release of the Velox.

Fabrizio Teghesi joins Kyosho

Fabrizio Teghesi joins Kyosho

Kyosho Germany have confirmed that front running Italian buggy racer Fabrizio Teghesi has joined their team to race the Japanese company’s buggy and truggy. Starting his racing career with buggies in 2000, the Italian racer was runner up in the National Championships last year, racing for Crono, and will this year compete for Kyosho at both National and International level, including the World Championships in the USA.

Champion Race 2008 - Announcement

The Italian Federation AMSCI has organized the “Champion Race 2008” 1/8 Track on the “L. Collari” track at Cassino (Frosinone, Italy). The race is open to all pilots registered with AMSCI, EFRA A, F1, F2 and to pilots registered with other international federations. The race will award the title of “Italian Champion EFRA A 2008”. The best 1/8 Category Italian pilots will attend the event. Three unforgettable days on one of the most beautiful European tracks, where the EFRA Italy 1/8 Track GP will take place in September 2008, as well as the European 1/8 Track B Championship in April 2009.

2008 Kyosho Masters – Announcement

2008 Kyosho Masters - Announcement

Kyosho Europe have been in contact to tell us about this years Kyosho Masters, a unique event that has been running since 1999. This year, the 10th Anniversary, will take place at Sucy-en-Brie near Paris from June 19th to 22nd, and will be open to the usual 3 classes – Elite, Expert and League, plus the ever growing Truggy class. Saturday evening’s drivers banquet will see live band, Endless Shiver, play, while the Japanese company will also be showing off the brand new Inferno MP9 1/8th scale buggy. Attending the event will be World Champion Mark Pavidis as well as other previous World and European Champions.

IIC 2008 – Entries now open

IIC 2008 - Entries now open

Scotty Ernst was in touch to tell us that the entry for this years International Indoor Championships (IIC) is now open. This years event will be back on the Las Vegas strip, held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, which is located very close to where the old Stardust hotel was and allows access to all that Las Vegas has to offer. The new venue will take us back to the style that the inaugural IIC had with an intimate ballroom and great feeling. The classes for the 2008 IIC will be slightly different from the previous events and the organisers are very proud to announce that the IIC will be a 100% brushless event. Entrants may compete in a maximum of three classes, of those three classes a maximum of two touring classes will be permitted. To run three classes one must be 1/12 scale (World GT is being counted as a touring class).

Copa de las Américas - Announcement

FAMAR and AAPARTT, the Argentinian National RC Federation, has selected AARBA (Asociación de Automodelismo Radiocontrolado de Buenos Aires) to run the first Americas Championships. This event will take place at the ‘Hernan Matticoli’ circuit on November 6th to 9th 2008 and is open to 1/8 and 1/10 on road categories. The organisers are looking forward to have the attendance of racers in both categories and from different countries and claim that this event will be a similar international experience like last years 1/8th scale World Championships, which also took place in Argentina.

Renaud Savoya wins Greece EFRA GP

The EFRA GP in Greece for 1/8th scale buggies was held this weekend on the same track that will host this Summer’s European Championships. All the top European names were present, as well as current World Champion Mark Pavidis from the USA, who made the trip over to compete at the event. Qualifying saw the TQ go to Losi racer Yannick Aigoin, ahead of Mugen driver Renaud Savoya in 2nd and Serpent racer Joern Neumann in 3rd. After the Semi finals, it was Savoya that lined up on pole position ahead of Mugen team mate Daniel Vega in 2nd and that order stayed unchanged for the entire race with the real battle on for 3rd, which was finally taken by Kyosho driver Jerome Aigoin who managed to get passed his brother Yannick in the final minutes.
