Willetts & Embling win BRCA E8 & Truggy Nats Rd3

Last weekend 64 drivers descended on the sunny Dirt track in the Midlands and Coventry Model Car club. Upon arriving at the track it was immediately visible that the club members had been hard at work to present the track in the best possible shape after 3/4 days of rain and a full calendar of racing on the track the previous weekend for charity. As the car park started to fill it was nice to see a nice mix of top national drivers and club racers. The E8 buggy started the meeting off. The qualifying was to be 3 rounds with the best 2 to count with the first round having a 4 min warm up bolted on. At the end of the first qualifying run Elliott Boots set the pace with him being the only person to complete 9 laps. At the end of the second qualifying run Simon Willetts had joined Elliott in the 9 lap club. This was then extended to Jack Embling joining them at the end of qualifying 3.

Xray Challenge Roma – Report

Xray Challenge Roma – Report

The Xray Challenge Roma was held at the T5 track in Rome, Italy. Practice on the small and technical track started on Friday with many drivers trying to get a feel and setup for the flat high grip surface. Unfortunately for the organisers and the racers, most of the Saturday was washed away by the ever present rain in Europe these Spring. However the drivers were able to get at least two hours of practice on the Saturday afternoon. This was followed by one of the highlights of the event, the Xray dinner party, held at the track that same night. It was a memorable evening with great food, atmosphere, and even a couple of surprises. The lucky draw was a much appreciated moment as well – with delighted winners.

Martin Soerlie wins at Norwegian Cup Series Rd3

The third round of the Norwegian Cup off-road series took place on the Innherred RC’s track in Levanger, Norway. The full astroturf track had a very similar layout to earlier years, only one turn has been altered just a bit, so all drivers needed little time getting familiar with the rhythm. After the qualification rounds Joakim Nicolaisen (Associated) took TQ in the 2WD class followed by 2011 Norwegian Champion, Martin Soerlie (TLR) who wasted a very good TQ run on the last corner in the last heat and had to settle for second, meanwhile local hero Roy Gjemble lined up in third position.

Mark Green wins Rd4 of BRCA 200mm Nats

Round 4 of the British 200mm Championship was held at the very tight and technical Adur circuit on the south coast last weekend. The weather was very good with temperatures 20+ degrees over the whole weekend. As Saturday’s practice started the drivers soon discovered that the track was very dusty and had extremely low grip. With many cars circulating the traction did improve, but still remained low for the rest of the weekend. It was Mark Green at the front yet again this season getting down to 15.0 laptimes. Team mates Joe Kerry and Alex Thurston were close behind, with all three drivers being much quicker than the rest. In qualifying it was Mark who took TQ ahead of Joe, with Alex getting 3rd place being the only drivers to achieve 20 laps.

John Bruins wins Dutch Stock Nats Rd2

John Bruins wins Dutch Stock Nats Rd2

Last weekend saw the second round of the Dutch electric track nationals take place at the 2012 electric TC worlds track, The MACH in Heemstede. The worlds chicane proved to be a challenge to many drivers however it was round one winner, Team Kyosho driver John Bruins who would take the TQ honours in the stock class followed by track local Jitse Miedema and reigning Dutch national champion Rob Janssen. With the weather forecast seeming to be a bit dismal and chance of rain high, many drivers came prepared with rain cars however it thankfully remained dry all weekend which resulted in John taking the clean sweep, winning all three finals. Behind him an exciting battle took place with the following  three drivers ending up on the same points total. Final times would be tie-breaker in the end which saw Jitse Miedema driving a Spec-R R1 take second place, followed by Rob Janssen and his Tamiya taking third. Serpent driver Ronald Arts came in an unlucky fourth place, just missing out on a podium place.

Thanks to John Bruins for the report.
