Numedahl Cashes in at TNS Rd1

The Top Notch Series kicked off its inaugural season at SDRC Raceway in San Diego, California on December 1.  Over 150 entries were on hand to battle for bragging rights and over $1,000.00 in cash and prizes. Regarded as the premier 1:10 off-road class, 2WD Modified was highly competitive, with some of the best racers in the region competing for the round win and the early lead in the championship.  After two scheduled rounds of qualifying, Reedy/AE Factory driver Kody Numedahl and his Reedy-powered B4.1 Worlds Car buggy were at the top of the time sheets and on pole position for the A Main. Kody took full advantage of his pole-position start by leading the main event wire-to-wire for the win. A nice trophy, a wad of cash, and the series points lead were well deserved rewards for Kody’s convincing victory.

Tasos Paparegas wins Greek national cup

The Greek National Cup took place at the Fanatix racing track near Athens. The one day event attracted many drivers from Greece and also JQ Products’ Joseph Quagraine but due to being a foreign guest driver he was not counted for the final result. The TQ was set by Kyosho/Orion driver Papanikolaou who has won not less then 13 races on the Fanatix track. In the A final Papanikolaou was leading in front of Tasos Paparegas and JQ in third place but mid-race Papanikolaou was halted by engine issues handing Tasos the lead. The latter was now in a battle with JQ who chased the Xray driver hard. The following minutes saw many lead changes between the two and they ended the race separated only by a second with Tasos Paparegas taking the win in front of John Paparegas and Zagorisos completing the top 3 as JQ was not counting for the final result.

Reedy & Associated sweep Indoor Champs

The U.S. Indoor Championships is one of the longest-running and most prestigious events on the on-road racing circuit. Traditionally held over Thanksgiving weekend in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, the 2012 running was shortened to three days, which allowed participants to spend Thanksgiving Day with their families. Practice was scheduled for Friday with three rounds of qualifying on Saturday, followed by the final round of qualifying and the main events on Sunday. In 1/12 Modified Reedy factory driver Keven Hébert has been the man to beat lately and he continued his domination of the class with a qualifying run 14 seconds faster than the second place driver. The main event saw Keven drive his 12R5.2 away from the field early and cross the finish line first with a two-lap advantage over second place. A Reedy 6800mAh LiPo battery powered Keven to victory in a class which relies heavily on battery performance.

Ari Bakla wins at Australian EP Onroad Nationals

The usually sunny Queensland saw a rain affected Australian electric on-road nationals weekend that started with a perfectly blue sky but come the qualifiers the weather turned to the worst. Race day Saturday started late due to heavy overnight rain and similar weather on Sunday meant the race director decided to use Monday to run the finals. In the open modified class its was local young gun Corey Broadstock and Chris Sturdy who showed a fast pace in practice but it was Xray’s Ari Bakla who took TQ honors after some close racing in the qualifiers. With Monday being used as the rain day and conditions went back to hot weather. A main 1 saw Ari pull out a gap instantly, and was never threatened. The second final was a different story, Simon Nicholson took the advantage of new tyres and passed Ari on the inside of turn one, winning the final by two seconds. A main number three was a little like the first one, Ari was on new tyres now giving him more grip so he easily pulled away from the field handing him the win and national title.

Craig Collinson doubles at Chadderton

The Batley Buggy Club hosted the second round of their Chadderton winter series, held at Radclyffe Athletics Centre. With over 120 entrants, a full days’ racing was ahead of the drivers. The multi-surface track looked fantastic with a good mix of jumps, bumps, carpet and the usual cork flooring. The track was also laid out to run anti-clockwise just to mix things up a bit. As qualifying got under way it was clear to see the fast guys were all running dBoots Terrabytes tyres (A compound), as these proved to provide the most grip on the cork flooring and looked super consistent between surfaces. Just like in the first round both 2WD and 4WD classes were run on the same day, so it was all systems go for those competing in both classes. There was some great and close racing throughout the four rounds, but it was Team Durango driver Craig Collinson who was on form again, taking three out of four qualifying rounds with both his DEX410v3 and DEX210, to give him the overall TQ spot with both cars. Steve Lawson qualified second in 2WD and Conor Cocker took the second qualifier spot in 4WD, also driving a Team Durango DEX410v3.
