Tessmann & Tebo TQ 2011 Silverstate

Sat-TyTessmann

Saturday kicked off with the 3rd and final round of qualifying. The track was well groomed by the crew after Friday’s rounds of racing. All of its gaping wounds were patched up and a healthy dose of water was laid down on the dirt. Cody King and Ty Tessmann were looking to get TQ’s for round 3 of expert truggy and wrap up the overall TQ, but it was Jared Tebo with an excellent run leading from the first lap to the finish. Although his efforts were grand, Tessmann won the overall TQ with his best two finishes being a 1st and 2nd. Many of the truggy drivers were switching between smaller pin tires and larger pins. The smaller pins seemed faster and a bit more forgiving in the ruts, but the larger pinned tires had more traction, especially when driving in the fluff outside the lines. I asked Ty about his tire choices throughout the race and he was going between the Proline Holeshots and Calibers. He thought the Calibers were a bit “edgy” but had more traction so those would most likely be his choice for the main.

Matt Chambers victorious at April Fools Classic

TLR’s Matt Chambers attended the 23rd annual April Fools Classic. After qualifying was through, Matt would start in the TQ position in both 4wd modified and Open Short Course. Matt would also start 2nd in the 2wd modified class. In the 4wd modified class, Matt used his TQ position to his advantage taking the first two A-main wins using his TLR XXX-4 GP. In the Open Short Course class, Matt used his Losi XXX-SCT to take the win after a hard fought battle with TLR driver and IR/CR local Joel Eaton who would finish second overall. In the 2wd modified class, Matt experienced some bad luck in two of the main events and ended up taking a respectable 3rd overall with his TLR 22 buggy. Local TLR driver Corey Peterson had a good weekend and finished 2nd overall.

JP Tirronen wins Rd6 of Florida State Off-Road series

Round 6 of the FSORS series made the way to Mills Pond in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for another stop on the popular Florida series.  JP Tirronen put his stamp on the 1/8th buggy pro class in qualifying by earning the TQ in rounds 2 and 3, taking the number 1 position leading into the mains. JP was having a magical weekend and from the tone JP put it on the rest of the drivers.  Racing out to a large lead, JP kept consistent pressure on the field and maintained his hot hand on the track. JP’s dad was in the pits making the proper pit strategy moves, performing great pit stops while JP increased the lead. Finishing with over a 2 lap lead, JP cruised in for his first win on the 2011 series. JP’s Serpent was decked out with JConcepts all weekend long.  Using an assortment of Bar Codes and Sevens to Top Qualify then switching to the trusty Crossbows mounted on Mono wheels for the main, JConcepts tires were hooked-up all weekend long on the amazing Mills Pond track surface. Topping off the winning ride was a Punisher body and Illuzion HD rear wing.
