Puerto Rico National Championship Rd2

Puerto Rico National Championship Rd2

The 2nd round of the Puerto Rico National Championships was run last weekend at the country’s Isabela Track. Qualifying in 1/8th scale went the way of round 1 winner and Mugen racer Andy Báez and he carried forward that form to the final, taking an easy win ahead of the Kyosho pairing of Ito Nieves and Fernando Méndez. In the 1/10th 200mm class, the pole position went to Serpent racer Alfred Aeschliman but he had bad luck in the final and this enabled the Mugen driver Juan “My Bad” Rodríguez into the lead from where he could take the win. Just behind a recovering Andy Báez came up behind Serpent racer Edgar Tirado and with 3 minutes to go in the 45 minute final, was able to take the 2nd position from him.

Yaniv Sivan takes Israel League Rd4

Yaniv Sivan takes Israel League Rd4

This weekend saw race number 4 in the Israeli League 2008 for 1/8 scale, contested at the Hot-Wheels race club in North Israel. The weather was fantastic and traction was high and this allowed Yaniv Sivan to TQ for the 30 minute final. At the early part of the final there was a nice competition between Yaniv Sivan, Nir Sivan, Yaniv Levi and Golan Levi and up 4 minutes to the finish Yaniv Sivan and Nir Sivan had a close battle and could open a gap on the rest of the field. However Nir Sivan flamed out after the middle jump and this left Yaniv Sivan to win followed by Yaniv Levi in 2nd and in Golan Levi in 3rd.

Chris Kerswell wins 1/12th British GP

Chris Kerswell wins 1/12th British GP

Last weekend saw the 19 turn British 1/12th scale GP run in Hereford, where the organisers created a challenging layout that was very unforgiving and punished small errors very heavily. Qualifying saw the TQ spot go to Russ Williams but he suffered worse luck in the 3 leg finals, crashing out of the third leg while leading. In the first leg of the A-final the win went to Corally racer Chris Kerswell ahead of Matt White with Mark Stiles in 3rd. The 2nd final saw a battle between HB team mates Mick Farrell and Mark Stiles until pressure saw Mick make a mistake eventually ending in 3rd behind winner Stiles and Keith Robertson in 2nd. This meant the winner would be decided in leg 3 and following the demise of Russ Williams, Chris Kerswell could take the lead and eventually the win, giving him the overall win ahead of Mark Stiles in 2nd.

Keith Robertson wins BRCA 1/12th Nats

Keith Robertson wins BRCA 1/12th Nats

Round 5 of the 1/12th scale Nationals took the racers down south to Plymouth where they were greeted by an open and flowing track where accuracy and corner speed was extremely important and the competition was proving to be as close as ever. In the 19T class times got quicker and quicker as qualifying progressed and at the end of the 4 rounds it was Matt White on pole with Keith Robertson joining him on the front row just ahead of Russell Williams. The final was a stunning race as the top three broke clear from the rest, then after a few laps Matt made an error and dropped out of contention and so for the remaining 7 minutes Russell was never more than 3 metres from Keith’s rear bumper. His Associated L4 was super-consistent and Keith held his line eventually finishing a tenth of a second ahead to take his third win of the season, this result being enough to clinch the BRCA 19T National Championships.

ROAR Legalise BL Motors for Stock

ROAR Legalise BL Motors for Stock

In all of the excitement surrounding ROAR announcing the legality of LiPo cells for sanctioned racing we overlooked the introduction of Brushless motors for stock racing. According to Novak, 17.5-turn brushless motors have been approved for use in the Stock class and in addition there is a name change for the 19T class. This will now be known as the Super Stock Class, and will allow 10.5 and 13.5-turn brushless motors.

Ian has a very impressive and extensive list of National and International championships to his credit in the hotly-contest Buggy & Truggy classes and had the following to say about the prospect of joining Team Xray.

Joining Team XRAY is a dream come true for me. Working with both Mario and Juraj and the team, using the highest-quality performance-driven products, will be a great pleasure!
