2022 AMSCI EP Nats Rd1 at MonacoRC Arena – Report

This weekend the first round of the AMSCI National Championship took place on the MonacoRC Arena indoor track. Thanks to the asphalt surface of the MonacoRC Arena it was possible to see consistent performance with excellent grip for both days of competition. The event was open to 5 classes, Touring Stock 13.5 F1, Touring Stock 13.5 F2, Modified Touring, Touring FWD 17.5 and F1 21.5. In the Touring Stock 13.5 F1 class, the poleman Federico Barbieri, following an unfortunate first final, managed to take home the victory followed by the ever faster Filippo Domanin who despite his very young age is getting us used to seeing him always high in the standings. Andera Simari completed the podium.

Eldridge & Payne win Rd5 of EssexCarpetClash

Round 5 of EssexCarpetClash4 took place last Sunday, and the drivers entered the venue to a slightly untraditional track layout compared to normal. With the straight in the centre of the track, a cross over and a larger jump for this round, it was a ‘Marmite’ track for the drivers. After heated practice, the 4 rounds of qualifying started with the best 2 to count. Harley Eldridge got to grips with the track straight away taking the top spot in all rounds. Stephen Brown would line up second with Steven Kelly in 3rd beating Lee Hedges on a better time. 2wd saw a number of drivers at the top of the timing sheets, but it was Ollie Payne, that took pole for the final by taking TQ in the first 2 rounds. Billy Fletcher tied on round points with Klye Moon would line up 2nd on the grid having a better round time.

Orlowski Dominates Schumacher Masters Rd6

This past weekend was the sixth round of the Worksop Masters, the penultimate event of this current series. Many people were thinking about their overall championship positions as the series draws to a close. The race format was round by round qualifying, with the best 2 results from 4 rounds of qualifying counting towards the final position. However, these plans were changed slightly with 2wd as the UK storms swept across the Country. Heavy rain was falling that much outside that the roof and drainage system couldn’t cope, so as some rain came in on the track area it was decided to move straight to finals after 4wd qualifying was complete and abandon 2wd qualifying.

Branson takes first EWS title

The fourth round of the 2021/2022 Essex Winter Series was held this weekend. As the championship was entering its final stages, there were opportunities for more titles to be decided. In the Scorpion Modified Class, Kyle Branson had a good chance of securing his first EWS Championship if things went his way. The Xray pilot got things off to the best start as he set the pace in qualifying, eventually topping all of the four rounds. Capricorn’s Alex Thurston kept Kyle honest however, running within a few seconds of Kyle and securing second on the A Final grid. Chris Grainger (Awesomatix) managed to find a new turn of speed to also put himself in the mix and often matching the times of Kyle and Alex and would line up third on the grid. The front half of the grid was completed by Harley Eldridge, the new Xray signing rebounding after a difficult debut last month for her new team, and Schumacher designer Andy Murray, piloting the production version of the Mi8 car he had penned himself.

Branson wins at EWS Rd3

The 2021/22 Essex Winter Series reached its midway point with Round 3 taking place last weekend. The Christmas break had seen a number of drivers changing teams and in the Scorpion Modified Class it was Kyle Branson, now leading the Xray charge in the UK, who set the fastest time in the opening qualifier. Kyle was just over two seconds ahead of Alex Thurston’s Capricorn and Xray designer Martin Hudy, who had made the trip over from Slovakia to support his newly-signed drivers. Harley Eldridge, another new recruit to the Xray team, was fourth ahead of Stefan Chodzynski and his semi-privateer Yokomo.
