Rick Vrielijnck wins opening Dutch 1/8th national

The opening round of the Dutch 1/8th Nitro On-road National Championship was held last weekend at the Real 80 track in Groningen in the North of the Netherlands. 51 drivers where welcomed with sunny weather conditions which lasted the whole weekend. This year the Dutch championship is run under a different racing format. Both (Premier) NK and (secondary) Nomac class, drive together in a combined “ABC” system. After the combined race, seperate championship points are given to the drivers in their respective class. After qualification all drivers are divided in this ABC system, and per lower final 2 bump up spots are available for the 2 fastest drivers to bump up to the next final. Because of this system, there where very nice battles in almost al lower finals to be seen between drivers fighting for these 2 bump-up spots. After all finals where run, Rick Vrielijnck won the A-Final, and came out as winner of the premier NK class. 2nd spot went to Joey Sorber, and 3rd to Jeffrey Rietveld.

2016 Victorian State Titles report

Last weekend saw over 190 entries converge at the Keilor Club in Melbourne, Australia for the 2016 Victorian Titles sponsored by JConcepts Australia. Racers were treated to an outdoors track with a combination of high speed sections, elevation changes and a huge triple jump, with a natural clay surface that grooved up through the weekend providing great racing. The JConcepts 3D tyre was chosen as the control tyre for all classes. The weather was perfect for practice and 2wd day with sunshine and 26C temps, however mother nature won on Sunday with heavy rains cancelling the 4wd portion of the event. The entry list was stacked with 7 of the 2015 Nats A finalists in attendance and entries from all around Australia, including 2014 National champs Josh Pain and Chris Sturdy, as well as the Queensland young guns Mitchell Steer and Alex Bernadzik.

Masao Tanaka wins at Sagamido Challenge

Masao Tanaka wins at Sagamido Challenge

The Sagamido Challenge was recently held at the SRT track in Aikou, Japan in the four nitro on-road classes of 1/8th Expert, 1/8th Sport, 1/10th GPT and 1/8th GT. A total of 55 drivers attended and in the 1/8th Expert category it was Worlds runner-up, Takahaki Shimo who set the TQ after the two rounds of 4 minute qualifying, followed by young and talented Shoki Takahata and Keisuke Fukuda in second and third respectively. Masao Tanaka would follow in fourth. The 20 minute A-main was sort of a sprint race with the top drivers pulling away swiftly while Masao Tanaka suffered a first corner crash, but he would recover soon, eventually passing Fukuda during the early stages of the race. Mid-race the traction conditions changed instantly with the previously low grip track changed to high grip as the dust got whipped away, causing a lot of trouble for many drivers. Traction rolling was soon a problem for most with Masao taking profit of the situation as he was able to grab the win one lap head of Takahaki Shimo.

Nicolas Bregante takes South American title

The 2016 South American Championship and FAMAR Cup was recently held in the city of Medellin, Colombia. With the track being located 3000 metres above sea level everyone had a hard time adjusting the engines to the conditions. The opening qualifier was held on Thursday with Q2 and Q3 being run on Friday but due to rain the final qualifier had to be postponed until Saturday. Nicolas Bregante would come out fastest in the 1/8th Nitro Buggy qualifiers to grab the overall TQ and he would also take the pole position for the hour long A-main after winning his semifinal in very muddy conditions due to a big storm. Nicolas continued to dominate the race by also coming out fastest in the A-main to take the South American Championship title from runner-up, Carlos Segui.
