Mattia Collavo grabs Italian 1/8th F1 class title

Mattia Collavo grabs Italian 1/8th F1 class title

Last weekend’s Italian 1/8th Nitro On-road Championship finale not only saw the title decision in the Expert class but also the F1 category title was up for grabs. The championship had to be decided between Mattia Collavo – who took the super pole – and Roberto de Cesare with the fastest driver in qualifying being Valerio Moccia. The start of the final saw no surprises. But 5 minutes into the race de Cesare had a crash and destroyed the rear end of his car which allowed Collavo to back off the throttle and cruise to the title win. At the front it was Luca Martini who took over the lead after Moccia had to retire because of a broken engine. Martini drove an excellent race and crossed the finishing line in first position while Collavo took it easy, finishing in 4th position and scoring enough points to win the Italian Championship in the F1 category.

Rug Racers Reloaded – Report

Rug Racers Reloaded – Report

This past weekend the famous Rug Racers race returned to Wodson Park, although for those familiar with the series it looked somewhat different. This was a one off event called Rug Racers Reloaded, which the organisers felt needed to be dedicated to Martin Laxton for his vivacious love for HRCC and Rug Racers and the sport. Martin loved to help bring youngsters into RC racing, which was his forté, and those youngsters are still at HRCC to this day, be it a few years older. “The Martin Laxton Memorial Cup” was a one off Trophy, which was presented to Martin’s son Stuart by his Mum Vicky, to look after, like his Dad looked after HRCC and Rug Racers.

Martin Wollanka wins Austrian Nitro Buggy Nats Rd4

Martin Wollanka wins Austrian Nitro Buggy Nats Rd4

The fourth and final round of the Austrian 1/8th Nitro Buggy Nationals was held at the A-Team Graz track. The newly prepared surface offered high yet smooth traction and it was Xray’s Martin Wollanka who set the pace by winning three qualifiers to take the TQ while Serpent’s Hupo Hönigl closely followed in second spot. After the semifinals Martin placed his buggy on the pole position for the 45-minute main final with Hupo coming in second, only one second short of Wollanka’s time. The main then saw Martin and Hupo running like a freight train and thanks to a different fuel strategy Hupo was even able to take the lead at some point but a silly mistake had Hönigl collide with a back marker so he would loose contact to Martin. From that moment on Wollanka was able to cruise to the win with Hupo securing a happy second place. Dominik Bauer (Mugen) would round out the top 3 result.

Carles Echarri wins Spanish 1/8th EP On-road Cup

Carles Echarri wins Spanish 1/8th EP On-road Cup

The first ever Spanish 1/8th Electric On-road Cup was held at the Almussafes in Valencia this past weekend. Nine drivers signed in for the class that was run alongside the National Nitro Championship. After five rounds of qualifying Carles Echarri took the TQ, closely followed by Marc Moix, Ramón Guasch, Miguel Puchal and Carlos Gimenez. As the drivers used different battery and motor configurations with some running on 6S while others opted to use 4S LiPo batteries the drivers decided to go for four minute finals but four instead of only three, after it became clear that some drivers struggled to complete a five minute run in qualifying. During Sunday’s finals Carles Echarri took wins in all four legs to grab the overall victory from Marc Moix and Ramon Guasch. Performance-wise the electric and nitro powered cars were only separated by 0.1s in the fastest laps with the cars being capable of speeds of up to 107km/h on the long Almussafes straight.
