Adam Drake wins at 2015 Mugen Challenge

The 2015 Mugen Challenge was hosted by LCRC Raceway in PA. The event had nearly 300 entries which was the largest turnout for the Mugen Challenge. Mugen Seiki’s Team Manager Tim Long and Adam Drake arrive a day early to put on a free driver clinic for the racers. Tim and Adam answered questions and spent time with each of the drivers discussing racing and looking over their vehicles. In the 1/8th Nitro Truck class Mugen’s Barry Pettit was the top qualifier. In the final Pettit, Bornhorst, Dickerson, and Drake all took turns leading the race. By the half way point of the 45-minute main Adam Drake settled into a comfortable lead followed by Barry Pettit, and young Mugen driver Ethan Mackanick making it a sweep of the podium for Mugen Seiki Racing.

2015 Tamiya Championship Series finals – Report

The 2015 Tamiya Championship Series finals have concluded at Tamiya America’s racing facility in Aliso Viejo, California. The event spanned two days and this year’s final celebrates 21 years of on-road Tamiya R/C car racing. There are eight new class champions, four of which will be representing the USA at the Tamiya World Championships in November; an event during the Tamiya Fair in Shizuoka-City, Japan. The four class-champions that will be moving on to the Tamiya World Championships are: Rod Canare in GT-1, Tyree Phillips in Formula, Roel Espina in GT-2 and Orlando Sherman in the M-Chassis class. The champions in the additional classes are Chris Widado in GT-3, Tyler Limsnukan in Novice Spec, Julian Wong in FWD and Lee Passehl in the Pro Spec/BMW M3 Cup.

Dutch 200mm Nitro On-road Champs Rd5 – Report

Round five of the 2015 Dutch 200mm Nitro On-road Championship was held in Utrecht in the centre of the Netherlands. The Utrecht track is the oldest permanent track in the country and was constructed in the early 1980’s from a line flying circle which also forms the track’s characteristic main straight bend. Good weather and temperatures of close to 30 degree Celsius made for perfect racing conditions but it would also make for increased tyre wear of the Capricorn control tyre which would be a factor in the main final. After the triple qualifiers it was again Daan Jacobs who took the TQ as he was the only driver to score a 20-lap run. Pedro Rombouts, Julius Kolff and John Bruins followed with 19-lap runs to complete the direct qualifying top 4.

Lucas Lemes wins at Metropolitado Championship Rd4

The recent fourth round of the Metropolitado Championship in Argentina saw Lucas Lemes walking away with the win in the 200mm class. In an entertaining main final Lucas held the upper hand over Enzo Branciforte in second and Jorge Selser in third place. Daniel Digangi and Marcelo Martin rounded out the top 5 result.

2015 JConcepts Bash 4.0 – Announcement

JConcepts in conjunction with NewRed Hobbies brings the Bash 4.0. The event which draws entries from a multitude of genres is a one-of-kind R/C showcase. The Ocala, Florida, based facility offers an indoor off-road race track, outdoor scaling/trailing course and Chicago style monster truck racing circuit and each will be specifically built for the 4th edition of the unique event. The Saturday portion of the event takes place on the indoor race track and consists of 1/10th off-road racing with a host of classes made popular on the Super Cup Championship Series while on the Chicago Style monster truck course, R/C monster trucks will race side-by-side showing off a unique but popular form of racing in a scale-like fashion. Sunday is reserved for the Tuff Truck Competition which takes place on the custom Trailing Challenge course, mud pit and sled pulling courses which are setup around the NewRed Hobbies complex. Entered drivers will compete in 4 separately scored events to determine the overall Tuff Truck Champion. 2.2″ and 1.9 and 1.5″ classes will be available to appeal to an array of drivers looking to enter their rigs into competition. Mario Rigert wins at Swiss Touring Car Nationals Rd4

Round four of the Swiss Electric Touring Car Nationals was held at the very fast Aigle track. The event started dry on Saturday, but on Sunday morning the weather had changed and two qualification rounds were raced under wet conditions and it was Mario Rigert who made the best of the conditions by taking the TQ spot in front of Daniel James in 2nd and Raphael Wicki in 3rd. All three finals would then be held under dry conditions and they saw a clean sweep for Mario Rigert. The remaining podium spots went to Mario’s team mates Raphael Wicki and Daniel James in second and third respectively.

South-African ORE national champs Rd4 – Report

The fourth round of the 2015 South-African ORE national championship moved to the Welkom RC Club. The indoor asphalt track greeted the drivers with great traction and a technical but fast layout for the event that saw special guest Alexander Hagberg made his way to South Africa to compete and show his skills in the Modified Touring and 1/12th scale Modified classes. With Alexander in the field and hosting a RC workshop, the rest of the South African drivers really pushed hard and went faster all weekend. Alexander once again showed is skills and pace as a professional driver and dominated the event from practise through qualifying and into the A-finals. The battle for the podium was really hot in the Touring Modified class with Deon Gove managing to take the runner up spot from Anderton Smith.

Jake Mayo & Rudy Rico win at JBRL Electric Series Rd6

Round six of the 2015 Jimmy Babcock Racing League Electric Series as held at Controlled Chaos Raceway in Palmdale, CA this past weekend. As usual the event attracted a nice mix of nationally experienced driver and local talent and in the premier class of 2WD Modified Buggy Jake Mayo took the day’s win from David Jenson in second and Carlos Quilez in third.
