Oskar Fjeld wins TC Modified at Norwegian nats Rd3

The third round of the Norwegian electric touring modified national series was held at the Vulbu Raceway close to Fagernes. The track itself is spectacular with a four meter elevation change and also the weather for the event was perfect, allowing good grip and interesting racing. The good forecast also meant a lot of drivers came out for the race, making it the biggest outcome in a long time. Qualifying consist of three rounds with the best one to count followed by triple finals. First round of qualifying saw Xray driver Tom Erik Haaversen setting the best time, closely followed by Oskar Fjeld and Joakim Nicolaisen in second and third. Oskar also set a new track record in this round.

John Doucakis wins at Greek TC nats Rd3

The 3rd round of the Greek National Championship in 1/10 EP Touring was held at the great high speed track of FRT in the North suburbs of Athens. Home track of double National Champion and current points leader, Nick Georgiadis (T4/Orca) who could secure his 3rd consecutive title with a win, the anticipation was at its peak for the outcome of the race between at least four title contenders. Qualifying was full of surprises, with the track heavily affected by strong winds limiting the level of traction and making each turn unpredictable due to gusts. In the end it was Awesomatix/Orion driver John Doucakis who took TQ, five seconds clear of the rest of the field.

Trin T. & Meen V. win at Malaysia KL International GP

140 drivers found their way to the 2013 Malaysia KL International GP held at the KLIRCC track. The nitro on-road race was run in 1/8th and 1/10th 200mm and saw the attendance many fast drivers with the most prominent of them being current 200mm World Champion Meen V. who raced both the 1/8th and 1/10h class. The 1/8th qualifying was won by Meen who outperformed his competitors by nearly a lap in his best 7 minutes run. He was followed by his KM team mates Charlee P. and Azri Amri. Bad luck and a DNF in the final prevented Meen from turning his TQ position into a win and he ended in 10th place with Trin T. (KM Racing) winning the race with the KM K8 prototype in front of Azri Amri and Nick Chong.

Alabama Manufacturers Shootout 4.0 – Report

The AMS event in Cullman, Alabama, continues to be one of the more well known races on the calendar during the summer racing season. The 4.0 event went off extremely well with the direction and management of Jimmy Babcock and Nick Black. A hefty 521 entries packed the facility for the weekend with the 1/8th classes once again showing the largest interest at this event. The now famous dirt, building and track layouts make for great racing and hold up extremely well to the punishment of the racers all weekend.  Once again, the JConcepts crew was on hand to support the product, customers and race team as well as a contributing sponsor to the “Greatest show on Dirt.” Qualifying started with Team Associated/JConcepts driver Ryan Maifield picking up where he left off from previous years and TQ’ed the opening qualifier in the 1/8th truck class by a narrow margin over Jared Tebo.

Keven Hébert wins 1/12 Mod at AOC

The 2013 Asian On-Road Championship, fresh off a successful debut in Shanghai, headed down under to Melbourne, Australia for round number 2. The AOC is the brainchild of Scotty Ernst and follows a similar format to the popular European Touring Series. Good competition in a relaxed atmosphere with generous track time packed into a compact schedule is the name of the game. The Melbourne round featured a 1/12 Modified class which was perfectly suited for the temporary carpet circuit which was laid out on a perfectly smooth gym floor. A healthy field of the top Australian drivers, many who have never raced carpet and/or 1/12 before were thrown into the deep end to compete against Canadian champion Keven Hébert. Keven and his Reedy/LRP-powered 12R5.2 qualified fastest in every round and also won all three legs of the A Main. Thanks to Keven’s assistance to his teammates and privateers, he was able to guide teammates Sandy Iavazzo and Darrin Campbell to second and third overall for the podium sweep.

John Ermen wins Dutch on-road nationals Rd4

The 4th round of the Dutch 1/8 on-road nationals was held on the very small and tricky circuit of MBC de Sluis in Gouda. This year the track received a new layer of asphalt and a new fence to protect the spectators much better because small mistakes are easy to make here. John Ermen was the only driver to set a 22 lap qualification time followed by RickV, Steven Cuypers and Robin d’Hondt. Still they had to drive the semi finals to reach the main final, that was no problem although John did face a moment of problems loosing some laps but he was fast enough to reach the main final.

Max Flurer wins E-Truggy at AMS 4.0

Now in its fourth year, the Alabama Manufacturer’s Shootout has become one of the premier events on the racing calendar. This year, the Cullman, Alabama track hosted over 500 entries, including the nation’s top factory pros. In the E-Truggy class, AE/Reedy factory driver Max Flurer drove his  RC8T Truggy to the pole position. Max took full advantage of his front row start and cruised to victory in both 10-minute A-Main legs en route to the overall win. Joining Max on the podium in second place was teammate Damon Borkowicz.

Thornhill Racing Circuit opening race – Report

After months of anticipation, Thornhill Racing Circuit’s gates opened for the first time on July 4th as racers from USA, Mexico, and Brazil gathered to run the first competitive laps at the new facility for the Grand Opening presented by FTW, Avid, RC America, Xray, Hudy, Hobby Pro USA, Beta, and VP Powermaster. Practice on Friday afforded the first opportunity for racers to experience the magnitude of the nation’s largest track. Designed and built by Joey “The Dirt” Christensen, the track features big lanes as wide as 20′ with European-influencing sweeping turns and American-styled jumps. Lap times dropped throughout Saturday’s qualifiers as the traction improved and drivers began to master the unique layout. Josh Glancy would TQ both nitro buggy and truggy, while Jake Dellinger and Andrew Clark took TQ honors in E-buggy and Pro4, respectively. Glancy made the fastest circuit of the day, lapping the track in 44.6 seconds.
