Horizon Hobby in the UK was in touch to let us know about the 2008 Panther Cup will take place on the 19-20th of April at the Frankley club. Backed by Panther Tyres, Novarossi and Losi, the race sees 5 rounds of qualifying followed by Xmas tree finals. Entry costs 30 pounds and this will include a set of control tyres, the Panther Komodo Dragon 2 Medium soft tyres and inserts.

Team Xray have made the announcement that former Australian National Champion, and top off road racer, Ian Haley has joined their team. Ian has a very impressive and extensive list of National and International championships to his credit in the hotly-contest Buggy & Truggy classes and had the following to say about the prospect of joining Team Xray.

Great news from our site sponsors Shepherd Racing in Germany who have announced that RC super star Daniele Ielasi has agreed a 2 year deal to race the company’s Velox. The 3-times Italian champion, 2-times European Champion and 3-times Vice-World Champion will participate at all major National and International 1/8th scale on-road races playing an important role for the race team and helping to promoting their products. The 2nd round of the Northern Germany Regional championships for 1/12th scale was held recently at the indoor track in Brunswick. In the modified class it was a strong performance for Lars Hoppe, who took the race win from the pole position while in the Stock class it was his Corally team mate and good friend Jan Asmer that took the win. This victory in Mod gives Hoppe the overall Championship lead heading in to the 3rd round.
More race announcements, this time its for the Mugen World Race that will take place on the 20th – 22nd of June in Furulund, Sweden. This track has played host to the European and World Championships as well as other major races and this event is open to all makes of car and any racers that want to compete, with 120 entries open for the buggy class and 36 for the truggy class.

Some major changes of heart at ROAR following today’s confirmation by the US Governing body that lithium battery technology has been approved for use in ROAR sanctioned events. Essentially all 7.4v batteries in a hard case will be approved for use if they pass the safety tests, of which there are three, the most important is the overcharge test. They are now approved to be used in 6 cell, sub-C Ni-Cd and NiMH classes and must meet the current minimum weight requirement, which means racers will need to add weight to their cars.

The organisers of the 3rd Annual Kyosho US Open Sedan Championships have been in touch to let everyone know about this event which will be run from the 11th – 13th of April. Held at the Kissimmee R/C Raceway in Florida, they have already confirmed that both last years Champions, Chris Tosolini in Factory class and Chris Lefrebve in Open class will return to defend their titles. Also, this year Kyosho has added the Inferno GT class into the mix.

This past weekend saw many of the top gas racers from around the US descend on the Ft. Myers track for the 5th round of the Florida state Series. This race is seen as a warm up for the Winter Nats with track time used to prepare for this annual international event. Qualifying saw Kyosho racer Robert Maestrey take the TQ spot ahead of Serpent racer Gianni Giorgio in 2nd, while the Xray of Mark Harrison was 3rd just ahead of DJ Apolaro in 4th. At the start of the main final DJ was able to slot into 2nd and then 2 laps later he could take the lead, which is where he stayed for the rest of the race to take the win.
